Is the world finally over its Kylie Jenner obsession?

by

One of the first pieces I wrote for this site was about my rather worrying Kylie Jenner obsession. As a (somewhat) well-balanced 25-year-old who never really got into the Kardashians way back in the beginning, I fell hard and fast for the Kylie craze.

Fast forward six months, and my opinions of the youngest Jenner have matured to say the least.

The main appeal that Kylie originally held for me was her grungy aesthetic. Last year, her style appeared far more relaxed than that of any of her sisters – and always with a tougher edge. I was all about her look; the leather, the lipstick, and most importantly, the lipliner.

Since last year, though, her style has made a rapid progression from tough to, well, aggressively provocative. Take the Coachella outfit from last weekend – it was far closer to being a ridiculous cry for attention than an actual fashion statement of any description.

It’s funny that Kylie’s youthfulness was both what drew me in and eventually turned me off.

There’s no doubt that she is ridiculously spoiled and doesn’t lead the life of an average teenager, but the snippets we’ve seen of Kylie’s behaviour on KUWTK also show a slightly uglier side to her personality. It’s one that we can all identify with to some extent – that shrugging, IDGAF teenage attitude that we can all remember displaying at some time or another.

Kylie’s problems in one of the latest episodes were decidedly more ‘first world’ than any of mine ever were as a teenager. Throwing a strop over a free trip to San Diego, anyone?!

After a no-show from Kylie at a family day out, her mum Kris seemed genuinely frustrated, saying: “Every time she seems to get mad at somebody she punishes them by not showing up.” They didn’t speak for a fortnight – I was lucky if I got to two hours not speaking to my mother growing up!

Despite all of my bitter misgivings, I can’t be 100% over Kylie Jenner. How do I know? Well, I’ve yet to hit the ‘unfollow’ button, and this tweet of hers from back in February still has me full of intrigue…

Hands up who’s with me?
