The cryptocurrency Bitcoin was launched in 2009 – it is created, traded, distributed and stored in what’s known as a decentralized ledger system, called a blockchain, there are no traditional banks involved.  Are you still with me? Good.

There are lots of currency exchanges where you can exchange your ‘normal’ cash for bitcoin, and some banks are moving into the market too. And increasingly, there are shops online where you can use your bitcoin to buy. Winner!

If you’re in the market for a more high end purchase – Tesla will accept your bitcoin. So get mining!
