Girls Just Want To Have Fun

Girls can be serious, of course. But even the most serious female wants to feel pretty in clothes that are flattering and fashionable. Not everyone has the figure or the budget of Duchess Kate, but it hardly matters since so many cute clothes for girls come in all sizes and all price ranges.

If you’re itching to do some online shopping – and what’s more fun than that? – you might want to check out this year’s fashion trends for spring and summer. High style isn’t just for your favorite royals and celebrities.

Here are a few things to look for, hot off the 2020 runways:

Big Collars

Some are calling them Disco Collars, but they’re really just a version of the exaggerated wide, long pointed collars that were a feature of a lot of shirts and tops in the 70s. You’ll see them in colors that contrast to really show them off when the shirt collars are popped over jackets.

Hot Pants Again

Hot pants, short shorts, Daisy Dukes, whatever you call them, they’re back in style again. (As if some girls ever gave them up.) They were shown in leather, in satin, and even in sequins for a hot night on the town. And wow are they tiny. The polished way to wear them this time around is with tights, as Chanel showed on the runway. Beware though, fashionable or not, this isn’t a look for everyone.

Everything Crochet

The vintage art of crochet is back in everything from casual wear to the most dressed-up looks. If you’re crafty, you can even try your hand at making your own crocheted garments. If you’re a beginner, start with a simple scarf or shawl and move on up to a whole dress when you’re ready.

Vibrant Colors

Neon is in, and you’ll see the brightest of fluorescent blues, greens, pinks, yellows and orange shades to add pop to your wardrobe. Valentino showed them, so you know they’re not just for kids. But a little does go a long way, so these jazzy hues are best worn paired with black, white, and other neutral colors or simply as an accessory unless you’re aiming to look like the circus has come to town.

Prints And Polka Dots

The prints are bold again, harkening back to the 60s and 70s, and they won’t be to everyone’s taste. But the polka dots, well, polka dots are a classic that has never really gone out of style. Depending on how you wear them, dots can make you look and feel like a gamine or a sophisticate. And there’s never been anything fresher for spring.

Bra Tops And High Waists

For the coming seasons, anyway, the crop top has been usurped by the even barer bra top. Worn with high-waisted pants and skirts to make the look more suitable as streetwear, it’s still a daring way to go and definitely not for when you’re going to a job interview or to meet your future mother-in-law.

Ruffled Tiers And Layers

This is femininity to the max. Floaty skirts and dresses layered with soft ruffles practically do the flirting for you. Top designers showed the look in gowns for evening wear as well as less extravagant versions for daytime. You could wear a longish ruffled skirt with a simple tee and sandals as a graceful alternative to your everyday skinny jeans. (Don’t count denim out, though. Celine’s whole 2020 show centered on it.)

Waistcoats And Vests

The boy look contrasts with the feminine in vests to be worn as part of a three-piece suit look, under jackets, over shirts, or just by themselves, which come to think of it doesn’t look very boyish at all. Ralph Lauren showed a low-cut vest going solo over a long flowing skirt for evening, while Burberry had a tailored suit that looked very Savile Row.

Of course you can’t buy everything that catches your eye. And you shouldn’t, either. Not every style will work with your proportions or with your life. And some will be so of-the-moment that investment in them isn’t worth it. But there’s always a way to use the inspiration you find and translate it into your own wardrobe and style.
