What does your sleeping position say about your relationship?

by

Some couples like nothing better than cuddling up in bed, while others can think of nothing worse. The warmth! The sweating!

But could your sleeping position really say something about your relationship?

Here are some of the more common positions and what it's believed they indicate about the couple's life outside the bedroom…

1. Spooning
Ah, the spoon. Generally comfortable for about ten minutes before someone's arm goes all numb. A spooning position is apparently the sign of a happy and well-adjusted couple who are loving and enjoy being physically close while they sleep. If you're anything like us though, you'll still end up rolling to opposite edges of the bed in the middle of the night!

2. Back-to-back
This is one if the most popular sleeping positions for long-term couples. Sleeping with your backs or bums touching is a sign that you are independent but still value physical contact with your partner. It's a sign of compromise, too – each of you have space but you are still dozing off close together.

3. Back-to-back… with lots of space between you
For many couples this is simply the most comfortable option for both parties, but in some cases it can be a sign that things aren't doing well. Maybe you've had an argument or are going through a rocky patch. Physical distance in bed is a sign that there's emotional distance in the relationship.

4. Face-to-face
This is an uncommon position – after all, who wants to wake up to their partner's morning breath? – but couples in the early stages of a relationship often choose to sleep like this. Yes, it's totally impractical but you really can't get any closer!
