The Food Safety Authority close FIVE businesses across Ireland

It sounds like our Friday night take-away could be at risk with the closure of restaurants and other businesses across Cork, Dublin and Roscommon today!

The Food Safety Authority have today announced the closure of five business and a Prohibition Order for one across Ireland.

Four restaurants were served Closure Orders under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 including:

VF Foods – Finglas, Dublin 11
Shangahai House – Mitchelstown, Cork
Yu Garden Chinese – Strokestown, Roscommon
Huahong Restaurant – Carrigaline, Cork

Another restaurant in Mitchelstown, Curry hut & Indian Kebab House was closed under the FSAI Act 1998.

A Prohibition Order was placed on Arcross Foods in Blackrock, Co. Louth.

Director of Service Contracts for the FSAI, Dr Bernard Hegarty has said that businesses dealing with food have no excuse for not complying to standards set by the FSAI:

The legal onus is on food businesses to ensure at all times that the food they serve is safe to eat. This requires ongoing compliance with food safety and hygiene legislation and there is absolutely no excuse for negligent practices.  All food businesses must have a food safety management system in place that is consulted and updated on a regular basis, in order to avoid non-compliance issues and breaches of food safety legislation.”

Are any of the closures made today in your local area?
