From spaghetti strap crops and tiny coloured sunglasses to ankle bracelets, velvet headbands, butterfly hair clips and scrunchies; the 1990s were the days when fashion was born and bred.

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were dating, Charmed, Friends and Sabrina the Teenage Witch were on our screens and Mary-Kate and Ashley launched their careers. Times were good.

What was one of the many gifts the Olsen Twins gave us? Hair bandanas, of course. In paisley print, to be precise.

The bandana is officially the nostalgic hair accessory making a major comeback this summer, and we're rejoicing from the throwback heavens.

Back in 1999, the world and it's mother was donning headscarves from Christina Aguilera to Dionne in Clueless. The paisley print was where it was AT.

Fast forward a couple of years, and the accessory has been spotted on the high street once more. Vintage stores are also stocking up on the style staple.

Brands and designers from JW Anderson, Kate Spade and Max Mara are using scarves for their bold catwalk looks, with signature printed ensembles and monogramming included for SS19

One perfect reason for sporting the look is that it can cover up a dodgy hair day, or unwashed hair with enough grease to cook a double cheeseburger. Unwashed tresses are concealed with ease.

Fold your square scarf diagonally in half to create a triangle, place it over your hair and tie at the nape of your neck. Fix with some bobby pins or hair clips to secure it all day, and voila. You're fierce.

You can even wear the scarves as a crop top if you tie it correctly at the back, which blew our minds. An accessory and an item of clothing which embodies a past era of our lives? Sign us up.

Bad Gal RiRi even used one for her Wild Thoughts music video, looking out of this world incredible as always. We all know that anything Rihanna touches turns to gold, so it's time we joined the trend.

The humble headscarf bandana wasn't just graced on the heads of 1990s royalty like Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls. Male celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Tupac even wore the edgy accessory.

While some of the trends from the nineties have earned their spot on the World Dressed lists nowadays, we simply must throw our support in for the bandana kerchief. It's both lazy and hip at the same time.

If you need us, we'll be hunting Temple Bar's vintage shops for more old-school baggy sportswear, coloured hair clips and tiny sunnies for festival season. Wear your bandana with pride, ladies and gents.

The fight to cure HIV and AIDS is ongoing, and while science and medicine have now developed treatments to reduce the life-threatening velocity of the illnesses, an all-out cure has yet to be discovered.

One company who saw the necessity to support those living with AIDS, and the non-profits which provide for them, was M.A.C.

Back in 1994, M.A.C first released their VIVA GLAM range, 100% of the sale of which has contributed to the support of AIDS sufferers for a quarter of a century.

When VIVA GLAM was created, society was struggling to navigate the height of the HIV epidemic.

The first ever Viva Glam lipstick was launched, designed to get people talking about the epidemic – and the gorgeous Ru Paul fronted the campaign, showcasing the original bright red lip shade.

In the years since, big name celebrities have continued collaborating with the brand to create a shade.

In 1995, we saw fashion designers  Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood and Katharine Hamnett participated in creating the couture 1995 colour collection, showcasing the shade of the original intense brownish red VIVA GLAM Lipstick we have come to know and love.

Throughout the years, the ambassadors have included Sia, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Dita Von Teese, Mary J. Blige, Ariana Grande and Ricky Martin – and five staple shades now make up the collection.

So far, VIVA GLAM has raised $500 million for the global fight against HIV/AIDS, helping millions of people. The UK and Ireland alone have given 540 grants to over 100 charities including Positive East, HIV Ireland, National AIDS Trust, Terrence Higgins Trust and George House Trust in that time by buying a lippie each year.

This year, the brand are focused on recreating their original campaign, with the gorgeous Winnie Harlow fronting the throwback recreation – posing just as Ru Paul did in 1994.

'I was inspired to recreate the original Viva Glam campaign after my hairdresser, Jay Brumant, showed me the beautiful images,' Victorias Secret model Winnie said.

'Working in fashion, I’m surrounded by many types of beauty, and I strongly feel that the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community are both prominent & embraced in the fashion world. I remember being invited to my first Vogue Ball. It was invigorating to see so many people from different walks of life come together and celebrate themselves freely.'

'Ever since then, I have loved & always wanted to try to recreate a “drag moment". I knew that if I was ever going to attempt it I would need to embrace an ICONIC look! Who is more iconic than RuPaul in the M·A·C Viva Glam campaign?'

'So when I was in full “regalia” post Adam Burrell’s make-up magic, my friend & New York photographer, Gabriel Perez Silva, helped me recreate the images, and that’s how this costume came to be! I’m so honoured to follow in the footsteps of amazing artists like Lady Gaga, Elton John, and Ru celebrating Viva Glam’s 25th Anniversary alongside raising awareness for the MAC Viva Glam Fund.'

Each Viva Glam shade is €20.00 and can be purchased at any M.A.C. counter or store, and on maccosmetics.com.

Unlike today's teens, who look like they have just stepped down from the Inglot MUA's chair, we are from the era of foundation covered lips and self applied French manicures.

Perhaps it's down to the mass of YouTube tutorials and Instagram inspiration that wasn't available to us back in the day, but today's teens fail to fall into the (foundation coated) makeup traps we did in secondary school.

Here are a few of the top nostalgic makeup techniques we used back in the day:

1. Foundation lips

Foundation coated lips were the basis of an excellent makeup look in secondary school.

While voluptuous, lined and highlighted lips may be all the rage now, when we were 15, the look du jour was to pretend you didn't have any lips at all.

A post shared by Kirsty Downie (@kirstydownie) on

2. Foundation types

If it wasn't Dream Matte Mousse or pan stick, we didn't want it.

There was something about the mousses' air whipped formula that we found perfect for school, and the shiny, tanned, glamorous sheen awarded to our visages by pan stick was too good for us to resist.

The problem was the liberal nature in which we applied these products, rather than the products themselves. Less is more wasn't our mantra back in the day.

A post shared by Kelly Curtis (@sephora_addiction) on

3. Spidery lashes

Again with the opposition to less is more, layering mascara onto our lashes until they resembled a terrifying mass of brambles was the way to go.

Bonus points is the mascara started flaking off and left gorge little black specks under your eyes.

Fake eyelashes from the €2 Shop were also an option for discos, which were to be bought alongside your tube of glowsticks and disposable camera.

4. Brushes? What brushes?

If an eye shadow palette came with a little sponge applicator, that was what was used for liberally layering the pastel shades.

The term brush roll sounded more like a baking term to us in our teens.

Applying foundation with your fingers was also an acceptable activity, whereas todays' teens wouldn't be caught dead without their beauty blender.

5. Orange foundation

There is something about being uber-tanned that seems like an absolute accolade when you are in your teenage years.

But like, who could be arsed tanning your whole body or splashing the cash for spray tans?

The natural remedy to our pasty skin was layers on tan in the spots of skin people could see, like our necks and forearms, and a nice coating of 'deep tan' foundation on our faces.

A post shared by @2000spop on

6. Foundation mask

Speaking of the aforementioned foundation, it was left in a flat, featureless mask on our faces, with the likes of highligher and contouring distant gifts from the future which had yet to be awarded to us via Kim Kardashian (who wasn't even a thing at this stage of our lives).

You may have occasionally opted for two delightful stripes of bronzer along your cheekbones or a splash of bright pink blush, but telling someone to get their 'highlight on fleek' back in 2008 would have been a completely foreign concept.

7. Raccoon eyes

Whether you were simply experimenting with a new look or had a deep, passionate relationship with The Pretty Reckless or Panic! at the Disco, raccoon eyeliner was the territory of emo kids at secondary schools the country over.

The look was accompanied by a matte black a swathe of eye shadow across the upper lid, symbolic of the deep and dark nature of the tormented soul of the wearer.

8. A severe lack of blending

Blending our makeup was something that we never did as teens.

After all, what was the point of wearing makeup if it didn't look like you were wearing makeup?

From that attractive orange jaw line to eye shadow that went all the way up to your brows, blending was far from the essential technique that it is seen as by the kids these days.

Huge congratulations are in order for Hannah Spearritt and her boyfriend Adam Thomas who are expecting their first child together.

The former S Club 7 member is due to give birth very soon. She revealed to OK! Magazine that her due date is just around the corner.

The Never Had A Dream Come True singer and her personal trainer boyfriend will be welcoming their baby in December.

The parents-to-be announced the pregnancy quite late due to Hannah’s previous struggles.

The Casualty actress bravely opened up about her heartache after suffering two miscarriages in the past. The Don’t Stop Movin’ singer suffered a devastating miscarriage in 2014.

“I had [a miscarriage] a few years previously with another partner,” she shared.

“They both happened early on in the pregnancies, around the five-week mark. It’s such an upsetting thing so it’s made it hard to relax this time, especially during the first few months,” she explained.

The EastEnders actress said that harrowing time has helped her appreciate this pregnancy even more: “Going through all that makes this pregnancy even more special, though.”

“I feel very lucky that everything has been okay this time,” the 37-year-old added.

We are so excited for Hannah and Adam to welcome their daughter in December. Talk about the perfect Christmas present.

Lizzie McGuire will forever be one of our favourite childhood shows. There are so many things we loved (and miss) about the popular Disney classic.

We adored everything from Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo’s friendship to her stunning family home that we often wished we grew up in.

The show was a staple during those awkward years where we experienced first crushes, first kisses, first breakouts and our first bra fitting.

Star of the show Hilary Duff recently revealed her favourite episode of the show and we have to agree with the actress on this one, it is without a doubt one of the best.

The Disney star revealed the episode where Lizzie and Miranda go shopping for bras for the first time holds a special place in her heart.

She explained to Today: “I definitely think that the bra episode is one that stands out in my brain as being like first of all, really wanting it, 'cause I thought a bra was cool, and then second of all, being like, ‘How am I gonna get that? I have to talk to my parents about that. That's gonna be the worst thing ever.’”

The Younger star explained that the episode resonated with her because she was going through a lot of similar experiences at the same time, just like most of the Lizzie McGuire viewers.

I'll  never forget the pure fear I felt when my mam dragged me to a bra fitting at Marks and Spencers. It’s such a cringe-worthy but empowering moment. You kind of feel like a grown up, but you can’t help but turn bright red when the sales assistant returns to your dressing room with an arm full of frilly pink bras.

Now, if anyone needs us we’ll be binge-watching Lizzie McGuire for the foreseeable future.

There's nothing like putting on a pair of rose-coloured glasses and taking a stroll down memory lane.

As much as we love being grown up queens, we have to admit, it was pretty amazing being a kid.

A recent poll of 2,000 adults in the UK found that an astounding 67 percent wished they could be a child again.

Same, tbh.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean the poll's participants want to grow up in the current era of Snapchat and Facebook.

In fact, 58 percent said that it was better to be a kid 'back in the day' because they didn't need technology to entertain themselves, the Daily Express reports.

As far as what makes us feel little twinges of nostalgia, school holidays topped the list of what adults miss from childhood.

Jacqueline Wilson recently revealed that Tracy Beaker will return in her new book, however, fans are not happy with the storyline.

The popular children’s author shared that Tracy Beaker is now a single mum, who is living in a rough housing estate, struggling to make ends meet.

Fans of the famous character were delighted to hear that a new book was on the way, however, many readers expressed their anger over how Tracy’s storyline turned out.

Taking to Twitter, fans discussed the new book, “Would it not be a more positive story to make Tracy Beaker a success following her time in care?” one wrote.

Another questioned the influence the novel will have on young readers, “Jacqueline Wilson writing a new Tracy Beaker book about Tracey now being a single mum in and out of work struggling to make ends meet living on a rough London housing estate. Nice inspiring message for 8-year-olds that if you start your life poor you’ll end it poor.”

“I feel sad for Tracy Beaker that she ended up struggling and single – would have been triumphant for her to have broken the cycle of her own upbringing,” said another.

However, amongst the negative response were plenty of joyous fans who loved the original book The Story of Tracy Beaker, which was released 27 years ago.

One mum wrote, “This is such exciting news! Just in time for my 31st birthday too…looking forward to catching up with one of my favourite childhood heroines and her daughter (that bit seems so surreal!)”

Another mum shared, “I cannot wait to tell my 12-year-old daughter! She will be so excited! I think I’ll be borrowing this one from her too! Only fair seeing as I passed on some of my books to her.”

Speaking about the return of one of her most famous characters, author Jacqueline Wilson admitted to The Guardian, “Tracy has been a character that’s haunted me. She’s the sort of person who sticks in your mind.”

She also reassured fans, “ I’ve always thought that, even though Tracy had lots of problems in her life and a pretty rubbish mum who was never there for her, Tracy herself would be a good mum, no matter what.”

My Mum Tracy Beaker will be released in October 2018. The book will be narrated by Tracy’s daughter, Jess.

The book may be aimed at seven to 11-year-olds but we know there will be many grown-ups sneakily reading My Mum Tracy Beaker too.
