While laying floor tiles may seem like a daunting task, as with anything, preparation is key, so with the right tools and the right mind-set, you can have beautifully laid floor tiles.

What you need:

  • Tiles
  • Grout
  • Tile cutter
  • Chalk
  • Spirit level
  • Tile spacers
  • Pencil
  • Spreader
  • Floor sealer
  • Damp cloth
  • Tape measure

 Step 1: Measure your room

Using chalk, mark where you plan to place the tiles. Next, find the midpoints of the two longest walls in the room and then join them by drawing a line across the floor. Do the same for the two shorter walls.

Step 2: Place the tiles

The two lines will help you lay the tiles in the best positions. Try using as many whole tiles as you can.

Step 3: Apply the glue

Evenly spread the adhesive across one of the corners created by the chalk lines. Working backwards, gently press tiles into place. Use the tile spacers to make sure the grouting is even.

Step 4: Lay the remaining tiles

When you reach the wall, cut the shapes you need to fill in any gaps using the tile cutter and leave space for grouting. If all tiles are levelled with the spirit level, move on to the other side of the room.

Step 5: Grout the tiles

After 14 hours, you will be ready to grout the tiles
