spring

It seems incredibly cruel that whenever the sun comes out and the masses are frolicking through green fields with a warm breeze on their skin, hayfever sufferers are forced into miserable seclusion.

Everyone else gets through harsh winter weather by promising themselves better days when the sun comes out – for us, damp winter days are the highlight of our year.

But it's not all bleak – here are some top tips that will help you stay on top of the pollen.

Don’t hang clothes outside to dry

Yes, it’s great drying weather, but it’s also great pollen weather.

Avoid ‘high pollen’ activities

Well you couldn’t possibly be expected to mow the grass or trim the hedges in your condition; the hubby will just have to take this one for the team.

Skip the woodland walk

This is an obvious one, but avoid anywhere with a lot of vegetation. The good news is the pollen count lessens the closer you are to the sea, so you’ll just have to take a trip to the beach.

Keep windows and doors closed

Alas, the cooling breeze can’t be yours on a hot day. Stop pollen from floating into your house and invest in a few fans to keep you cool instead.

Quarantine the pet

You may not be allergic to cat or dog hairs, but if those little guys have been outside, they’re bound to have pollen clinging to their fur, so keep them out of main living areas.

Decontaminate

Change your outfit and shower whenever you get home as pollen has an irritating habit of clinging to your clothes and hair when you’re out and about. Gosh darn, the hubby will just have to make the dinner this evening…

Keep on top of housework

As if you're not suffering enough, it’s important you vacuum your house regularly and dust with a damp cloth to catch the sneaky pollen grains that do make it inside.

Wear sunglasses

These will help minimise the amount your eyes come in contact with pollen and wrap-around glasses giving you the best protection. At least you'll look cool!

And finally, don’t keep fresh flowers in the house

Because obviously.

We've been picking up on a few major trends for Spring/Summer, and a print that keeps popping up is gingham.

Once the exclusive territory of picnic blankets and jam jar lids, the quaint print has had a modern makeover, causing it to creep into the S/S collections of some of our favourite high street stores.

Top €13.00, Crop top €13.00, both Penneys

The cousin of plaid, the picnic-perfect print was seen on the runways at House of Holland, Prada and Peter Jensen, so it's not surprising that everyone from River Island to Penneys has picked up on the trend.

We love both of these gingham tops from Penneys, and we can see them perfectly pairing with some slouchy mom jeans and platform runners for summer.

Top  €24.99, Trousers €29.99 both New Look

New Look is also getting in on the look, creating pieces that will incorporate seamlessly into a stylish work wardrobe.

This gingham blouse also features embroidery detailing, checking off another major trend box.

Playsuit €45.00, Flats €37.00, both River Island

Keeping things super edgy, this River Island playsuit would look killer when paired with a leather biker jacket and boots during festival season, and with Forbidden Fruit just around the corner, there is no harm in planning your outfits early.

These metallic flats are giving us major Miu Miu vibes.

The studded strap and silver finish toughen up the gingham ribbon tie in the best possible way.

Slip dress €28.00, Ruffled dress €35.00, both Pretty Little Thing

Pretty Little Thing currently has the monopoly on gorgeous gingham dresses.

This dainty little slip would look divine with a T-shirt underneath, 90s style, or give it a more modern take by layering it under an oversized, sheer T-shirt dress.

And the this ruffed midi? We're getting major "VIP section at Coachella" feels from this one.

It's the most awkward time of year: we want to drape ourselves in spring's latest fashions, but our January budgets are barely supporting our iced caramel macchiato habit.

While we are definitely over sale season, there are a few bits out there that are actually really on-trend for the new season – but with a red tag attached.

Here are a few of our favourite finds from the high street.

1. Zara

Blouse, €19.99; Mesh dress, €17.99.

Zara just dropped its spring collection, but its sale section is still going strong. Thanks to Zara's fashion-forward selection, many of the sale pieces are currently on-trend for spring.

Ruffles are having a prolonged moment, and this striped work shirt is ideal for sprucing up a work wardrobe after the dull pullovers of winter.

Mesh and tulle are also huge, and throwing this mesh tunic over jeans and a T-shirt for shopping, or over an LBD for night will snag a majorly high style score.

2. ASOS

Pink dress, €39.33;  Pointed loafers, €23.33.

ASOS, the king of online sales, is still slashing its prices with a whopping 70 percent off.

Pink shades were seen storming down major designer catwalks like Balenciaga, Kenzo, Oscar de la Renta, Bottega Veneta and Valentino, making punchy pink the most fashion-forward spring shade.

Gucci also made loafers the most stylish shoe style, and a pointed toe adds a unique touch to a well-worn concept.

3. Topshop

Backpack €34.99; Mesh top €34.99.

Backpacks are still going strong throughout spring, and this floral and scorpion-adorned, double-zip piece looks achingly designer – but, luckily, it's actually from Topshop.

A new year signifies new beginnings, so whether your resolution is to study harder or hit the gym, you can cram all your books or workout essentials into this roomy leather carry-all.

4. H&M

Ruffled blouse, €14.99; Ring clasp bag €19.99.

H&M has also just unveiled its new spring line, but some of its sale pieces are just as covetable.

As we've already mentioned, ruffles are here to stay for spring, and this carmine-coloured blouse is ticking all the boxes.

Been obsessed with the Chloe Faye bag? This H&M dupe is currently on sale.

We'll fight you for the last one!

There is nothing more exciting than a new season of style, and we are definitely ready to shed our faux furs in favour of some lighter, brighter, springtime threads.

There are plenty of trends we are dying to ditch in 2017, so we've never been more eager to get to grips with spring/summer styles.

Unfortunately, our January budgets are still stretched a tad tight, but Penneys has stepped up and is already dolling out doses of fresh, forward-thinking fashion.

Jacket €23, Trousers €16

The high street bargain store has just unveiled its Spring 2017 collection, and some of it is seriously stylish.

We love this oriental style pyjama suit, which we could see Alexa Chung rocking with a pair of block heeled, black boots and a clutch.

Dress €25

Been dreaming of a Self Portrait dress all year but couldn't quite scrape together the funds?

You're in luck, because this white, detailed lace dress could have stepped straight of the high-end run way.

The high Victorian neck keeps this piece firmly in with the high street trends while maintaining an understated designer edge.

Mules €25

Mules are still going strong in the new season.

This Penneys pair are paying homage to one of winter's most popular looks, embroidery.

While we wouldn't be long getting frost bite if we tried to go sans socks in these beauties now, snap them up when they hit stores so your can wear them all summer long.

Jacket €23, Trousers €16

80s style, brightly coloured power suits were showcased on every designer runway, taking inspiration form America's latest presidential election and it's resounding pantsuit obsession.

This pink Penneys style is a softer take on the trend, ideal for weddings and cocktail parties with a structured shirt and clutch or with a slouchy t-shirt and runners for a casual day time look.

Jacket €21

Ok, we know we're getting a teeny tiny bit ahead of ourselves, but how divine would this panelled denim jacket look slung over an edgy black dress and boots for festival season?

If you can't wait until that long to wear this panelled piece, pair it with some high waisted trousers and a shirt for a casual work-to-bar look.

Mesh dress €16

Layers of mesh and tulle are one of Spring's biggest catwalk trends, but translating the look into a real life wardrobe can be notoriously tricky.

Luckily, Penneys had created this sheer mesh shift that can be thrown over a shorter dress, t-shirt dress or even black jeans for a deconstructed nod to the tulle trend.

We can already see ourselves emerging from Penneys, multiple bags in hand. See you in the queue!

Tulle was all over the S/S 2017 runways, at high fashion houses like Dior and Dries Van Noten.

The frothy fabric is perfect for the brighter months, adding a hint of girly glam to even the most drab of outfits.

While the fabric is usually reserved for whimsical weddings and those of a ballet dancing disposition, Spring/Summer is the perfect excuse to get experimental with your look, and a tulle skirt is an easy way to mix things up.

This Littlewoods piece is a total steal for €40, and ticks all the boxes when it comes to styling a tulle skirt.

The tea length keeps it out of tutu territory and the dusty pink shade is the perfect nod to the soft, pastel shades of spring.

This look needs toughening up, so team with a t-shirt, boots and embroidered leather jacket for daytime, or really clash the textures with some fishnet tights and a boyfriend coat.

This gorgeous style is ideal if you're sick of body con skirts and jeans on a night out.

Add a leather look bralette or backless bodysuit and heels like model Dani Whittaker for a fresh, super glamorous night time look.

Or, opt for a portion of Jennifer Lawrence's new season style straight from the Dior runway and match it with an embellished jumper and high heeled boots.

If you ever dreamed of feeling like a princess as a kid, this spring stlke choice will seriously appeal to your inner child.

Just keep it grown up with edgy accessories and a hint of leather to avoid looking like a children's party extra.

It happens every year, but it never gets us any less gleeful.

After a fairly rotten winter (looking at you, Storms Desmond and Jonas), we seem to finally be emerging out the other end.

Yes, it's still bitterly cold and intermittently lashing rain, but the evenings are slowly getting brighter and the people of Ireland are positively GIDDY.

Last night the sun didn't set until 5.50pm, and Twitter had an absolute field day.

People could barely string sentences together, they were so excited:

There were a lot of post-work pictures:

Some regressed into Irish Mammy-isms:

People have long attempted to figure out why we get such indescribable joy from leaving work to a still-bright sky, but it's just one of those THINGS, isn't it?

Ah, the #grandstretch. Long may it last.

While we love our cosy jumpers and knitted hats, the recent weather has brought us all down a tad and made us wish it was spring or summer again.

Well, that's how Penneys made us feel with its latest Snapchat posts. The clothing store snapped all of its fab upcoming pieces that will be available next year, and we have to say, we're in love.

From very slick and sophisticated suits, to flower-power cushions and AH-MAZING accessories, Penneys will certainly be the place to go next spring (as always!).

Sunnies heaven right here – now all we need is the sun:

We already have our eyes on a few key pieces but what we're really loving this time around is the homewares range.

Comfy cushions, colourful blankets and adorable mugs… our houses will look better than we will next year.

The cushion above is a must-have for every women's bedroom, right?

Nobody can turn down a little bit of inspiration every morning!

We cannot WAIT for this stuff to hit stores.
