As if being sick wasn't bad enough, it now seems the we may have to part ways with some of our favourite beauty products if we want to prevent the illness form reoccurring.

Sure, a a little bit of lippy and a lashing of mascara might make us feel better when we're in the depths of a bad dose, but when you consider the amount of germs that could be living in your cosmetics collection, you might want to consider ditching the makeup if you don't fancy having to dispose of some of your favourite products.

According to The Independent, Morgan Statt, a health and safety investigator for consumersafety.org, confirmed there a multiple health risks associated with using makeup while we're poorly.

“You should absolutely dispose of any lip products after you’ve been sick," says Statt.

“Your lip linings are a natural gateway to your respiratory tract which puts you at an additional risk of infection and illness.”

But lipsticks aren't the only offenders, Morgan told SHEmazing that certain eye products can provide the ideal conditions for bacteria to grow.

"If you've had some sort of eye infection, like conjunctivitis, it's best to toss out any eye makeup you were using when you got the infection. Dark, moist places like a mascara tube are ideal breeding grounds for bacteria, which could spur on inflammation," she said.

"If you only suffered a cold and don't want to part with your products, you can salvage certain ones. If you use an eyeliner pencil, cut off the top portion that you used while you were sick and disinfect it with an alcohol wipe. The same can be said for your favourite eyeshadow palette. Get rid of lingering germs by disinfecting with an alcohol wipe."

But wait, all hope is not lost!

If you really can't bring yourself to bin your favourite lippy, you can salvage it by cutting off the top and disinfecting the tube with rubbing alcohol.

However, if you are really concerned about germs, Morgan says that dumping the product is the best option.

It's time to celebrate one of the biggest holidays in the employment calendar; National Sickie Day. *Tosses confetti*

We figured it's time to do some healthy digging and find out what gems people were using to call in sick to work, and we also desired to know the dumbest excuses too. Natural curiosity gets the better of us…

Employment Law Experts (ELAS) are saying that the estimated number of employees calling in sick in 2017 on National Sickie Day was… wait for it…350,000 WORKERS. Wow.

Why is the first week of February just too unbearable for everyone to face their jobs? A combination of factors are predicted, such as the first weekend after Dry January and the first post-Christmas pay-day.

mean girls wink GIF by T. Kyle

ELAS have also predicted that National Sickie Day will cost the British economy around £45 million (€51.3 million), due to hours lost, wages and overtime. Good God, that's a LOT of wasted labour.

According to a survey by AXA PPP, using the flu excuse seemed to be satisfactory for four out of 10 bosses. However, eight percent of managers weren't convinced by a single one of the nine 'best excuses' listed below…

The number one excuse for ringing in sick (according to the boss) was the flu, with back pain coming in second, and injury caused by accident in third place.

Stress, elective surgery, depression, anxiety, common cold and migraine finished up the top nine, with 'none of the above' in 10th place, meaning there were some other crackers outside of the top 10 that we just NEED to hear.

According to ELAS, the absolute WORST excuses in 2016 for missing work were:

“My only pair of work trousers is in the wash”, “It’s my dog’s birthday and I need to arrange a party for him”, “The dog ate my shoes”, “I got arrested”, “I lost my PPE”, and of course; “I stayed out partying last night and haven’t had any sleep”.

Classic. Other contenders were; “My friend is on annual leave so I can’t get a lift”, “I have no way to get to work” and “My wife earns more than me so I have to look after the kids”

Ah lads, you've got to do better than that. A bit of creativity would go a long way with that lot…

This bada** rockstar has shown just how tough she truly is. Pink has been released from her hospital stay and has a message for all her fans.

The mum has recently been touring Australia and posted about her forced decision to postpone a concert due to her and her children’s illness.

“What these parasite paparazzi don’t show you, is two doctor visits in Byron on two consecutive days, antibiotics, steroids, Vick’s, nose spray, throat spray, more steroids, NyQuil,

“A screaming baby in the middle of the night, every night, while mama gives him warm baths and tells her daughter everything is fine.”

I don’t need to clear this up, but out of respect for my fans I will attempt it. I scheduled this tour meticulously, trying to do what was best for my children, while also putting on the best and most physically demanding and beautiful show of my life. This break in Byron has been scheduled since 2017, as a way to get outside the hotel and the winter and have some time with my children. I’ve already been sick twice (kids as well)on this Australian tour, but the first time we got sick, I was able to push through. This time, what these parasite paparazzi don’t show you, is two doctor visits in Byron on two consecutive days, antibiotics, steroids, Vick’s, nose spray, throat spray, more steroids, NyQuil, a screaming baby in the middle of the night, every night, while mama gives him warm baths and tells her daughter everything is fine. You can think whatever you want, it’s your right, but I have never taken advantage of any one in my entire life. I have never fucked off while disrespecting hard working people who spend money to come see me play. I have never phoned in a single tour, I have an impeccable record for not cancelling. I mother with everything I have whilst handling all the rest. The snark in this is unbelievable and makes me long for a nicer world. I’m doing the absolute best I can, and you can believe it or not. What they don’t show you in this picture is me drinking water and lying down while my friends try to entertain my 7 year old who is asking me why these creepy men are surrounding us and pacing back and forth and taking pictures of her every move. I will see everyone tomorrow whether I’m better or not, and the postponed show will be rescheduled. As I said, I’m sorry to the real fans who this situation has affected. Onwards and upwards.

The rockstar explained how physically demanding her show has been and that she was “doing the absolute best” she could.

Pink, once again, tried to push through the pain and sickness to deliver fans the amazing, jaw-dropping performance they have been waiting for.

However, this time she may have pushed herself too far.

The singer was rushed to the hospital just 20 minutes before she was due to leave for the concert’s soundcheck on Monday due to “excruciating pain”.

According to Live Nation, the mum was admitted and treated for severe dehydration on Sunday. Then was forced to return to the hospital the next day, just before her scheduled concert.

She was then diagnosed with a gastric virus and admitted for treatment until her hospital release last night.

Pink explained how physical her performances are: “I flip, dance, fly, harness, silk, and scream my way through a total shit show of awesomeness (no pun intended).

“I think all of you deserve the full show and me at my best. Our next show will be Saturday, and until then I will be drinking green tea, and spending time with my kids.”

Hi beautiful Sydney people. First, I want to say thank you to all of the kind people out there for your well wishes for my speedy recovery. On Monday, we were absolutely planning on going ahead with the show, and about 20 minutes before I left for soundcheck, I was rushed to the hospital, in excruciating pain. That was the reason for the late cancellation. It was out of anyone’s control, and of course, wasn’t planned that way. I was discharged from hospital last night, and am following doctors orders of liquids and rest. A lot of you know how physical my shows are, and that I don’t just stand in front a microphone and sing. I flip, dance, fly, harness, silk, and scream my way through a total shit show of awesomeness (no pun intended). Therefore, I need to be physically healthy and well in order to perform this show. I think all of you deserve the full show and me at my best. Our next show will be Saturday, and until then I will be drinking green tea, and spending time with my kids. That’s a warning to paparazzi, you might actually see me walking upright outside of my hotel room cage with two little children, and another warning: I might even smile. Not too much, though. I’ll try to control the smiling. My sincere apologies to any of the ticket holders that this has affected, the rescheduled dates will be announced today. Thank you for your patience, compassion, and support. I look forward to rocking out with all of you as we have done for many many years. All of my love. Pink I also want to thank the amazing doctors and nurses at St Vincent’s Hospital for taking such good care of me and getting me home to my kids.

The singer was  absolutely heartbroken that she could not be there for her fans, but she needs to put her health first so she can continue to finish her tour.

She concluded, “thank you for your patience, compassion, and support. I look forward to rocking out with all of you as we have done for many many years. All of my love.”

The rescheduled concert dates will be announced later today.

We hope the singer and mum continues to recover smoothly. She is a complete rockstar on stage and for pushing through her health issues for her fans.

Now we’ve seen a lot of odd make-up trends in our days, but making yourself look ill is definitely one we have yet to encounter…until now!

The trend, known as ‘me no shita chiiku’ is really popular in Japan writes Refinery 29, and sees women applying their blush not just on cheekbones, but actually underneath their eyes too.

A quick search on Google of the term ‘Byojaku’ will show you that this ‘sickly’ look is very much a trend with the wearer appearing vulnerable and quite child-like, which it seems is the aim of the look.

However, illness isn’t the only look many Japanese women go for when they apply blush under their eyes as blogger RinRin Doll explains: “Rather than a sick look, the blush brings a more youthful and innocent look to the face.”

Hmm, we think we’ve spent far too long learning how to conceal our under-eye baggage so we may give this trend a skip – would you give it a try?!

Here is Rin Rin Doll doing a tutorial on her popular make-up look:

Colds, headcolds and flus are just the WORST.

From annoying sniffles and a niggle at the back of your throat to a fever and sweats; colds and flus can really bring us way down.

However, there are some things you can do to help avoid getting sick this autumn and boost that immunity to the max!

1. “I work out”
That’s right, exercise can help keep those pesky sniffles at bay – just another reason to get those runners on! Studies show that people who exercise on a regular basis get sick less often than those who do not.

2. “You can totally make friends with salad”
Don’t listen to them – fruit and veggies are one of your best bets against the common cold! Fresh produce will boost your immune system and keep sickness away. Garlic is also an amazing way to help boost your immune system against colds and flus because it is antiviral and anti-fungal – basically it’s magic. So eat it.

3. “Rub-a-dub-dub”
Keep some anti-viral gel in your bag or at your desk during cold and flu season. Sure, you may seem like a germ-phobe putting it on every time someone shakes your hand – but isn’t it better than the alternative?

4. “Zzzzz”
Make sure your sleep pattern is up to scratch as disturbances in our sleeping can really affect our health. Aim for 8-10 hours and you should be feeling fresh and perky.

5. “You’re not going out in that”
Now, we don’t want to sound like your parents but if you feel a cold coming on, going out with bare legs and wet hair isn’t going to help, is it?! Invest in a good winter coat and wrap up warm and cosy against the wind and rain.

If all else fails and you do come down with a cold…or even a cursed flu then grab that water bottle, a big blanket, a day off, lots of fluids and some Disney movies and you'll be right as rain as soon as you know it!

You put it in your mouth twice a day, but do you really know what’s lurking between and on the bristles?

Here are five nasty germs hiding on your toothbrush:

Influenza
Yes, the virus that causes you to get sick. If you have a cold or are coughing you need to either dump your brush when you are better or soak it in Milton tablets to ensure it is germ free.

Faecal matter
That’s poo to you and me. This is because when you flush the toilet, water droplets are injected into the surrounding area often landing on your toothbrush.

E. Coli
The germ associated with causing you to vomit and have diarrhoea can be found there. Gross.

Blood
Yes, blood – mainly caused by bleeding gums. If this is you, not only should you probably make an appointment with the dentist but you might want to clean your brush.

Food
Well you are brushing the food out of your mouth so this one is not really surprising. Gross, but not shocking.

Bet you’ll think twice now about hanging on to your brush for longer than four months.

When you’re feeling a bit peaky, it’s only natural to want to find out what’s up doc…and fast!

But putting your faith in the internet for a spot-on diagnosis is the worst thing you can do, according to a new study.

It found that nine in ten Wikipedia entries on common medical conditions were just plain wrong.

The doctor’s behind the study said it’s because the website lets ordinary users create, delete and edit entries –  boosting the risk of mistakes big time!

Lead author Robert Hasty warned, “Researchers should not use [Wikipedia] as a primary resource because those articles do not go through the same peer-review process as medical journals.

“The best resource when looking for a diagnosis is to speak with your physician, who can take into account your medical history and other factors to determine the best course of treatment.”

Since its launch in 2001, Wikipedia contains more than 31 million entries in 285 languages, at least 20,000 of which are health-related.

The study backs up surveys showing as many as a quarter of women have misdiagnosed themselves on Google.

A survey of 1,000 women in 2012 found they often wrongly diagnosed themselves as having breast cancer, thrush, diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma.

There is nothing worse than the winter vomiting bug – we’d take a head cold over it any day – but thankfully scientists may have found a way to ward it off and it’s pretty tasty.

According to new research, there is a particular ingredient in pizza that can help prevent you from catching the awful stomach virus.

Carvacrol found in oregano oil, which gives pizza its distinctive flavour, has now been found to be highly effective against the norovirus – yay!

Apparently there is a chemical in the herb that strips through the virus’ “tough outer protein coat” which then allows other agents in the body to destroy it.

Unfortunately, before you go stocking your freezer full of pizzas, scientists have said that “no amount of pizza consumption will protect anyone from norovirus”. They also added that if too much is consumed it will cause a burning and numbness of the tongue.

Looks like our best defence is still hand sanitizer, for now at least.
