Daily exposure to pollution can harm the hair and scalp, which means us city gals are a bit screwed when it comes to having healthy hair.

Klorane’s new Aquatic Mint range aims to gently cleanse, detoxify and protect the hair and scalp from these daily aggressors, so it basically saves the day?

Working and living in an urban environment means scalp and hair are exposed to a variety of pollutants including fine dust, exhaust gases, central heating, tobacco and food smoke.

In the short term, this leaves the scalp and hair dirty and dull, feeling suffocated and odorous while long term exposure can result in accelerated appearance of grey hairs and even premature hair loss.

The key ingredient in the range, Aquatic Mint, is cultivated at the brand’s organic farm in the South West of France and is specially extracted to obtain a pure juice from the fresh plant.

This particular species of mint contains the highest concentration of antioxidant and has been proven with frequent use, to detoxify and protect hair and scalp from ozone pollution, heavy metals and cigarette smoke.

The formula, which is silicone and paraben free, gently and effectively cleans and protects the hair and scalp without weighing it down.

The detox shampoo with Aquatic Mint, which is SLS and SLES-free, cleanses, detoxifies and cools the scalp leaving hair feeling extra clean, removing an amazing 97 percent of polluting particles.

The formula for the protective conditioner with Aquatic Mint is comprised of 95 percent natural ingredients too.

The hydrating complex cools and protects the scalp from pollution, while detangling and increasing the hair’s shine, leaving it light, protected and glistening.

The Aquatic Mint range is also part of Klorane’s 100% eco-responsible range, which makes it all the more gorgeous. We love a good, environmentally-savvy brand.

Take all my money, Klorane, I'm sold.

Being blonde has it's perks, but staying blonde is another story altogether.

From maintenance to conditioning to frizz, bleaching your hair blonde brings annoyances alongside the shimmering golden fierceness.

Watching those dark roots emerge while checking your bank balance and realising that you can't afford to get them bleached professionally is a special kind of heartbreak.

Seeing those unwanted brassy yellow tones seeping through sends shivers down my spine, as a gal who has white/silver hair. Banishing yellow has been super easy for me since I began using the brand Fanola:

Otherwise known as the purple shampoo GODS, I was stunned at how amazing the results are. It does dry out the hair, but it's worth it if you pair it with a good conditioner, or use Olaplex

Olaplex has saved my bleached barnet by using specialist chemicals to legit bind the hair together and protect it from the damage of bleach.

The salon Cowboys & Angels on South William Street in Dublin SWEAR by it, and for good reason; It really does work.

I've tried using 'big brand' or high street purple shampoos, and normally they're an absolute train-wreck. Their bleach and toners are a pure mess, NEVER use them.

Always go to the profesh gals for bleaching your hair; the cheap ones in Boots will just damage your gorgeous locks and you'll have to pay to fix it anyway.

As someone who had to purge my hair three times to have green hues removed, it's always an imperative idea to go to the salon.

John Frieda, I'm looking at you. Bleach London, y'all need to do some WORK. So I was extremely sceptical when I tried L'Oreal Paris Elvive' new purple shampoo.

Only the professional salon brands like Fanola normally work, but I was hugely impressed by L'Oreal Paris Elvive's efforts. Their new campaign is fronted by none other than Helen Mirren, and they have vowed to banish yellow hues.

Their purple shampoo and conditioner promises to "act as a colour corrector by counteracting and neutralising undesired yellow and orange tones" to leave your hair bright and cool. That's quite the promise…

Purple formulas, often called silver shampoos, are used on white, silver and dyed blonde hair to keep them looking fresh and light coloured. Purple is the opposite to yellow on the colour wheel, and works to cancel out the sunny tones.

I should mention, my hair was bleached blonder than it's natural dark blonde tone, then a silver/lilac toner was used.

My toner unfortunately allows pink shades to seep through, but after using L'Oreal Paris Elvive's purple shampoo, the hair was noticeably less pink. I wanted lilac realness and I got it, so it's a job well done in my eyes.

My hair also didn't feel as dried out, after pairing it with the matching L'Oreal Paris Elvive Purple conditioner.

It's only necessary to use purple shampoo once a week, and leave it in the hair for one to three minutes for excellent results. While still no match for Fanola, my hair has returned to a more lilac tone rather than unwanted yellow and pink.

I would 100 percent recommend the shampoo for bleached blondes, or even highlighted brunettes, as it's far cheaper than Fanola.

Cowboys & Angels sell Fanola's purple shampoo relatively cheap compared to it's marketed price, but you'd struggle to find their no yellow shampoo online for under €20.

At €8.95 each for the shampoo and conditioner, L'Oreal Paris Elvive allows you to get blonder on a budget.

If Helen Mirren is on board, then by GOD so are we; She can do no wrong.

Overall, L'Oreal Paris Elvive Go Purple gets four stars out of five stars from us. Great value without any damage to the hair, and decent blonde results.

You don't have to be vegan to buy or support cruelty-free cosmetics.

Every euro you spend sends a powerful message.

That's why supporting brands that don't test on animals like bunnies and puppies is clearly the way to go!

We have 11 products you can buy guilt-free, and that won't compromise you looking fabulous. (You can thank us later).

1. The Prince of Darkness – Lush

Kicking off the list, we are going to the dark side.

Lush has created an activated charcoal face mask called the Prince of Darkness.

The product often sells out and it's easy to understand why. It's infused with lavender oil and fine sea salt to clean the depths of your skin (and possibly your soul). It will have your face feeling soft and refreshed after it works its magic.

They will have to pry it out of my lifeless hand before I stop using it.

2. 'Tattoo Liner' – Kat Von D

This eyeliner is one that just doesn't budge.

Crying your eyes out after being dumped? Don't worry because your eyeliner will still look unreal.

Being attacked by hayfever season? This eyeliner has you covered as your eyes and nose may run, but this ain't going anywhere.

End up in a CAR accident? Once again, the liner comes through to have those cat eyes looking sharp.

The queen of tattooing had us covered when she was designing the product.

3. Yes, Please! Pressed Powder Shadow Palette – ColourPop

Yes, Please! – Just take our money. This eyeshadow palette is stunning, practical and pigmented.

Hitting their best selling list, the shades give you a subtle pop of colour.

Perfect for a night out in town or a dinner date catch up, this cruelty-free palette is an absolute steal.

4.  Soft Neutral Wine Matte Lipstick – Charlotte Tilbury

The matte revolution is a limited edition, so you better act fast if you want to paint the town red with this lippy.

Inspired by our favourite Friday night hobby (WINE), this lipstick is a luscious red that will make your lips stand out from the crowd.

On the slightly dear side of life, the dazzling colour and smooth application makes it worth every penny.

5.  Brazilian Cupacu Scrub-In-Oil – The Body Shop

The secret to why this body scrub is unbelievable is nut oil. When they made oils, they didn't make them equal.

This scrub contains the cupuaçu nut which is responsible for Amazonian's enviously beautiful skin.

It's a tag team as the magical oil is mixed with fine salt crystals.

The combo means the scrub is much more effective at penetrating and exfoliating the skin.

The Body Shop is also massively against animal testing and you will currently receive a fiver off your purchase if you sign their petition in store. It's really a no-brainer.

6. Nail Polish – Catrice

You don't have to lose your sparkle when shopping cruelty-free.

This stunning nail polish is a combination of Shake & Seal Top Coat ‘01 Ocean Drive’ over ICONails Gel Lacquer ‘55 All Roads Lead To The Ocean’.

For those eagle-eyed beauty lovers, you might have already guessed that the range is available in Pennys.

It's the shop that just keeps on giving!

7.  Superdrug Extracts Shampoo & Conditioner – Superdrug

Don't compromise your haircare, these shampoos and conditioners from the Superdrug range will have you in hair heaven.

They're also PERFECT for a student budget.

The creamy conditioner coats your locks to leave them strong and healthy. An added bonus is both the shampoo and conditioner smell incredibly fruity.

You get a lot for your buck here as their haircare line is extensive and affordable.

8. Purifying Body Ritual Travel Set – Urban Veda

Our jobs and plans to travel the world means that we have to make selective choices about the cosmetics we pop into our suitcase.

Whether you're taking a car, plane or train, this travel set will be one you shouldn't leave the house without.

Parabens are banished from this range, so they respect and work gently incoordination with your skin.

If that wasn't enough, it does a solid for the environment by being 100% recyclable!

It's a win-win.

9. Stay Matte & Beautiful Brush Collection, 5 Piece Set – Eco-tools

A sister duo founded Eco-tools with the mission to make us feel beautiful inside and out.

A staple in my makeup bag, this is a brand to get behind.

They're environmentally friendly, high-quality, and affordable too.

The range uses only recycled materials, renewable bamboo and a high standard of manufacturing processes.

Their care and attention are very much reflected in their products.

The brushes are soft, long-lasting with such a smooth application you'll be feeling like a MUA.

10. Instant Lift Brow Pencil – E.L.F

It's hard to imagine the time when big brows weren't in.

We only have our cringe-worthy photos as evidence of the crimes committed against our eyebrows.

This instant lift brow pencil comes in three shades and it's a hot favourite amongst E.L.F lovers.

E.L.F has listened to our cries for good quality makeup at affordable prices.

They're so good that it's almost hard not to get carried away with buying EVERYTHING.

11. Huangjisoo Pure Foaming Cleanser Deep Cleansing (Peppermint) –  The Konjac Sponge Co

To complete our listicle is the Konjac Sponge company.

They know how to look after your skin by taking Korean beauty secrets and applying them to their skincare line.

The deep cleanser combines peppermint, cucumber and chrysanthemum extracts which calms, expels dirt and refines the skin.

You'll be given a healthy gorgeous glow every time you go to take off your makeup, thanks to this incredible product.

It's hypoallergenic and made with 98 percent of natural ingredients, so even those with the most complex and sensitive skin can enjoy this cleanser.

Kendall Jenner may have access to the best hairstylists on the planet, but she still swears that one super affordable shampoo is the secret behind her luscious locks.

The model – who caused a great deal of upset for the ballet community this week – has reportedly told Allure that Finesse shampoo is her go-to haircare product.

The popular reality TV star said: “Kim likes Finesse shampoo, and now so do I.”

And it’s not just Kendall who’s noticed the effects of the $3 product, as she claims stylists often comment on the condition of her hair.

“My hair has held up so much that every hairstylist has been like, ‘Why is your hair still so amazing?’ And I’m like, ‘I literally don’t do anything.  I just use Finesse.’”

Mistaking one product for another while fumbling around the bathroom bleary-eyed is part and parcel of our morning routine, and yet despite this we've (thankfully) never left the house sporting a bald patch after mistaking hair removal cream for Head and Shoulders.

But if a recent upload to Imgur is anything to go by, not every young woman has been as fortunate as the ladies here at SHEmazing! HQ.

After supposedly mistaking Nair for shampoo, one particular lady did what any self-respecting millennial would do and allowed her sibling to upload an image of her disaster to Imgur.

Sporting a hairstyle not unlike our grandfathers', she gave her best Blue Steel while acting as a walking advertisement for opening your eyes before applying any product to your body.

Unsurprisingly, Imgur users are calling major BS on the snap, with many insisting that the young woman would have realised her mistake before sporting a head you can see your reflection in.

"Staged. Nair BURNS!" wrote one. "You physically feel something burning on your scalp, and you have to wait 15 minutes for it to work."

While some users insisted they could see the edges of a bald cap, others expressed concern over the girl's lathering skills, writing: "I'm more concerned that she didn't shampoo the sides of her head."

"If she thought that was shampoo then she did a sh*tty job of washing her hair," added another.

Can't kid a kidder…

Always read the label.

Panicked and on the verge of a weekend away, all too many times before we've dropped a serious wad of cash on travel-sized toiletries.

Mad, blind dash around Boots the night before our flight? Yup, that'll be us. Shovelling items into our trolley as we navigate Tesco fours hours before the gate closes? Guilty as charged.

And while this GORGEOUS new range from Lidl might not help you get any more organised, it's certainly a lot easier on your holiday pocket.

The supermarket's mini provitamin shampoo is a mere 79c for 50ml. A mini toothpaste is 49c and a 100ml volume hairspray is 89c. For the lads, there is a 75ml shaving foam for 79c and a 50ml 2-in-1 sports shower gel also for 79c.

Airport security-friendly body lotion, hand cream, lipbalm and deodorant is all available too and nothing costs more than a euro.

The range has already landed in select Lidl stores, but it's being rolled out nationwide shortly.

So, this may have just solved all of our problems when it comes to expensive shampoos and conditioners. One woman went on mission and appears to have come to the conclusion that we don’t need fancy products after all- just some dirt.

Mud—and the clay in it—is one of the oldest beauty ingredients in existence.

The ingredient has often been used in clay and mud masks for both hair and skin. People adore the ingredient as it absorbs excess oils and can deep-clean your pores.

What happens if you wash your oil-prone hair with muck? According to Allure, amazing things.

The mud-based shampoo Shea Terra Organics Moroccan Mud-Poo (yes, poo, not an unfortunate typo) has been around for a while. The latest in mud products comes in powder form and requires you to ix the powder and water together to make a “muddy slurry” concoction.

mudpoo-spoon.gif

Then it is ready to be used like any other shampoo, except that instead of the usual floral scent mud shampoo has a mintier aroma. Good to know.

Cosmetic chemist Randy Schueller explains: "Clay can absorb oil and help clean your scalp, and it contains tea tree oil, which does have some antifungal and antibacterial properties."

This is why mud shampoo leaves hair feeling clean and will allow you to go for three days without washing your hair. Just think of all of the time you can spend not getting up early to wash your hair on weekdays with this wonder product.

However, Renee Jacques did note one issue with the mud shamppo:

“I do have one caveat about the mud-poo: It can be drying, so make sure you use a good amount of conditioner on the ends of your hair after using it. If you have dry hair, Shea Terra Organic's website suggests dropping a few squeezes of hair oil into your slurry before applying it.”

She said that she will definitely be trying mud shampoo again in the future and considers it something of a must-have beauty product.

editorial_headerBlake Lively, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian: just a few of the names that come to mind when we think of thick, voluptuous, va va voom hair.

However, for those with thin, limp, lifeless locks, falling curls can be an everyday struggle. Still, and while transforming fine hair into a luxurious work of art isn’t always easy, it CAN be done.

We have outlined the simple steps in our Get The Look: Volume video to help you achieve fabulous, long-lasting volume.

  1. Wash hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Shampoo & Conditioner. This will help maintain all day volume and bounce, making the hair manageable without weighing it down.
  2. Next, apply TRESemmé Volume & Lift Mousse to the roots of the damp hair, to provide superior natural looking volume. Use a comb to make sure the mousse has been spread out evenly throughout the roots.
  3. Blow dry to 70 percent dry and section the hair off into 2-3cm wide sections.
  4. Blow dry with a large roller brush and put rollers in immediately after, while the hair is still hot.
  5. Next, spray the hair with TRESemmé Ultimate Hold Hair Spray. Allow the hair to cool around the rollers and set.
  6. Take out rollers, starting with the first roller put in and lightly tease the hair at the root. This will add extra volume and help the style to hold for longer.
  7. Finally, gently comb the hair through to the ends.

And there you go, say hello to big hair! Limp locks will now be a thing of the past and you’ll never have to worry about your tresses looking dull and lifeless again.

editorial_headerDying to give that celebrity bob a try – but not ready to get the chop just yet? Most people with longer locks feel that the only way to get short hair is to cut it. Not so!

The faux bob mimics the style of an actual bob, without having to resort to a drastic chop. It’s no surprise then that numerous celebrities are working this look on the red carpet: it’s classic; it’s chic – and it’s great for anyone who is considering going shorter, but would rather give it a trial-run first.

This look is particularly simple and easy to create with the help of the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth range and a few bobby pins/hair grips.

  1. Wash hair the night before using Keratin Smooth Shampoo & Conditioner to help transform hair, leaving it smooth and more manageable for up to 48 hours.
  2. Split the hair into sections and lightly curl with a straightener. Don’t worry if the sections aren’t exactly even.
  3. Next, back comb these sections to create a base for the clips to grip to. Once you are finished back combing, brush the hair through until smooth.
  4. Separate a small bit of hair at the front of the head, and apply TRESemmé Volume & Lift Mousse to the ends of the remainder of the hair. This will give the hair texture and help the style hold for longer.
  5. Place two bobby pins in a criss-cross at the bottom of the hair, roll the hair up to the nape of the neck and pin in place using extra pins. Using the hair that you left to the front of the head, twist it lightly and tuck under at the nape of the neck with the rest of the hair. If you have layers, create the Lea Michele style faux bob by leaving some curls to hang by the front of your face.
  6. Pin bobby pins throughout the hair to create texture and to secure the style.
  7. Finally, finish the style with TRESemmé Ultimate Hold Hair Spray, for 24 hour protection against frizz and flyaways.

And there you have it! You’ve mastered the SHEmazing! faux bob; the perfect style for genuine looking short hair without committing to chopping it all off.

And they work great with long and short haired alike – being quickly and easily created by using the right products.

Check out our Get The Look video below and follow our simple steps for creating the ultimate summer braid.

  1. Start by using silicone free TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Shampoo and Conditioner. This cleanses and moisturises the hair without weighing it down, making it perfect prep for styling.

  1. Secure the braids at the end with clear elastics and bobby pins. Repeat the process on the remaining sections of the hair.
  1. Take the remaining hair and begin to braid, securing at the end with clear elastics.
  1. Finish with TRESemmé Extra Hold Hair Spray to achieve maximum hold with extra flyaway control. It is humidity resistant leaving no stiffness or stickiness, but with flexible hold.
  1. Finally, tease out the braids to give them more of a loose-laidback look. And hey presto! you are now all set for whatever activities you have planned this summer.

editorial_headerLooking effortlessly natural is easily achievable with the right hairstyle. Whether you are heading to the gym or just to the cinema, the ponytail is always a handy go-to hairstyle.

But for more glam events, why not really take the ponytail to the next level? A textured look adds instant elegance to any outfit and this simple but sophisticated style can be seen everywhere this season: just look at Gigi Hadid!

  1. Wash the hair with TRESemmé 24 hour Body Shampoo & Conditioner to help maintain all day volume and bounce, making the hair manageable without weighing it down.
  2. Start at the crown, take 2-3cm-wide sections and softly backcomb from the root. Backcombing will give the hair texture and that edgy-raised shape, an eye-catching look that we commonly see in fashion.
  3. When you have finished backcombing, comb the hair back in the direction that the hair sits and lightly brush the hair into position.
  4. Place bobby pins on either side of the hair bobbin and hold the ponytail tightly in place. Place one of the pins in behind the hand and wrap the bobbin around the hair as tight as possible and pin the second one in to hold the ponytail tightly in place.
  5. From ear to ear, tease the hair out in small sections of the hair to create that volumised look. Then take 1cm of hair to wrap around and conceal the bobbin, this will also add an element of elegance to the hairstyle.
  6. Lift the ponytail and shake while misting the hair with with TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Sea Salt Spray infused with sea kelp extract. This helps you create a sexy, tousled texture in every stand.
  7. Finally secure the style with TRESemmé Ultimate Hold Hair Spray.

Now you can transform your plain ponytail to a party ponytail! Whether you have straight, curly, thin, dry or oily hair, this is definitely one hair style you should be trying out this summer.

Can you imagine getting into the shower every day and NOT rinsing your hair through with a lovely smelling shampoo? Neither can we but it is becoming more common as increasing numbers of women (and men, of course!) are leaving the shampoo and conditioner behind.

As many of us become aware of what we are putting in and on our bodies, more and more people are turning away from traditional hair care products, opting instead for more natural alternatives, or simply just water!

So, what happens when you leave shampoo and conditioner behind? Is your hair a massive, smelly ball of grease like you imagine it would be? As it turns out, that couldn’t be further from the truth…

From checking out bloggers that have quit shampoo, like the Hairpin, the friskyLittleOwlCrunchyMomma, Treehugger and loads more, it looks like while your hair may go through a period of ‘greasiness’ as it gets used to be being product free, once the PH balances itself, it becomes strong and healthy.

It would appear that once the natural oils of your hair take hold once and for all, your hair becomes softer, more manageable and a lot less frizzy.

Many of those who do not use shampoo instead use a mixture of baking soda and cider vinegar, though many opt just for water too.

Would you forego your shampoo routine and try the natural way? We’re intrigued!
