MAC Cosmetics' range is known for its highly-pigmented, creamy and vanilla-scented lipsticks.

Many shades have become cult products, and the makeup moguls at MAC have decided to immortalise them in scent.

Shades like Ruby Woo, Velvet Teddy, Candy Yum-Yum, Heroine, Lady Danger and Creme de Nude have all been chosen for the collection.

The MAC Shadescents are designed to capture the personality of your favourite lippie.

The collection plays on the concept of synaesthesia; the mixing up of the senses that allows some people to see sounds or hear colour – or smell colour, in this case.

Ruby Woo will be inspired by "deep red leather" (sounds very Fifty Shades) while Candy Yum-Yum will be reminiscent of fairground candyfloss.

"We have a fanbase attached to certain lipstick shades," MAC's senior vice president and group creative director, James Gager, explained to Elle.

When developing a concept for a new scent collection, the creative directors were inspired by their existing shades rather than going with a celebrity face or novelty gimmick.

The scents are dropping on December 8, just in time for Christmas.
