Social media app Instagram will hide the total number of 'likes' which posts in Ireland receive in a trial to analyse whether users prefer a less competitive social media environment.

Users themselves will be able to see how many 'likes' their own posts get, but not those of other Instagram users' posts.

A spokesman for the app said; “We are testing this because we want followers to focus on the photos and videos shared, not how many likes they get."

They added; “We don’t want Instagram to feel like a competition. We hope to learn whether this change can help people focus less on likes and more on telling their story.”

The company began testing this new feature in Canada in May, emphasising that the focus should be on the photos and videos themselves rather then the numerical results.

The trial is now being extended to Irish users, with the move likely being welcomes by parents and childrens' welfare organisations due to the negative effects on self-esteem associated with Instagram.

Instagram undoubtedly encourages people to portray an idealised version of their lives among their peers, seeking popularity of friends and acquaintances.

A new Canadian study of 3,826 teenagers discovered that social media may be associated with adolescent depression, as young people compare themselves with filtered, unrealistic images of others.

Instagram users will still be shown the number of comments that other users' posts attracts, which could be used as a proxy for popularity.

Instagram has been seen as the least controversial major social media platform, seeing as Facebook's meddling with elections and 'fake news' has gotten them in trouble, as well as YouTube and Twitter's issues with hate speech.

Tara Hopkins, head of public policy, EMEA at Instagram said; “We want Instagram to be a place where people feel comfortable expressing themselves."

She added; “This includes helping people to focus on the photos and videos they share, not how many likes they get.

"We are now rolling the test out to more countries so we learn more from our global community and see how this can benefit people's experiences on Instagram.”

Thank God for Miley Cyrus. She has fully MADE our Valentine's Day by essentially sharing her entire wedding album, and we're lining up in droves to see it.

In honour of the (apparent) most romantic day of the year, the 26-year-old singer gave her fans an inside look at her picture-perfect nuptials to actor Liam Hemsworth.

She posted candid photos of the bride and groom to her Instagram, and she was looking absolutely gorgeous.

She captioned the first image; "My Valentine every single day." Too cute, Miley. You're both stunning.

The next image shows the happy couple embracing, with the caption; "Thank you for always bending down to hug me…I promise I will always meet you in the middle on my tippiest toes! I love you Valentine!"

There is a definite height difference, so we have mad respect for Liam for bending down. The bar is super low…

Miley and Liam wed in a small, intimate ceremony at their Tennessee estate on December 23, and the general public had no clue it was happening.

Fans first began to suspect that the actor and singer, who met on the set of The Last Song in 2010, were exchanging vows when clips of their celebration began to spread on social media.

Miley confirmed that herself and Liam married after 10 YEARS of dating on St. Stephen's Day.

The Nothin' Breaks Like A Heart songstress shared a photo of herself in the beautiful Vivienne Westwood wedding gown, and we were FLOORED.

Keep the pictures coming, gal. We crave them.

Literally everyone in the audience of Valentino's revolutionary Paris Fashion Week haute couture show bawled like a baby.

For one, the iconic supermodel who has been slaying the game for three decades returned to the iconic house of fashion after FOURTEEN YEARS to close the show- Her Royal Highness Naomi Campbell.

Celine Dion is moved to tears by haute couture relatively often, she's an appreciator of art. However, this show moved both Dion and Campbell to tears for it's celebration of black beauty.

Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli designed the stunning collection, which saw each model inspired by a beautiful flower, and featured bold and bright colours, diversity and petal eyelashes.

Celine Dion is an ebullient presence at every fashion week she attends, giving thumbs up to paparazzi when she's impressed and occasionally jumping for joy.

She couldn't help the tears from falling watching Piccioli's work, modelled by women of every ethnicity, but when Naomi walked down the catwalk in a sheer black dress, Dion WEPT.

It was one of couture's most diverse line-ups ever, with 39 black women walking. Picciolo said of his collection;

“Couture is the way that you can evaluate the uniqueness of life, but it was never meant to be for black women. It was meant for just white women. This is a celebration of black beauty.”

Campbell wept silently as Picciolo was given a standing ovation at the finale, she has witnessed the inherent racism in the industry since she began.

The iconic supermodel broke down barriers, and was one of the first black women on the covers of high fashion magazines and on their runways.

The billowing gowns were modelled by Alek Wek, Liya Kebede, Adut Akech, Duckie Thot, Akiima, Sabah Koj and Ayak Veronica, among other powerful, high fashion faces.

The soundtrack was soul icon Roberta Flack’s The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face, which matched the emotional ambience perfectly.

The subversion of the racial norm was clearly hugely important to Naomi Campbell, who praised the designer on her Instagram;

“Congratulations on a historical moment, done in such an elegant manner no words needed to be said. Blessed to be part of such an incredible, spellbinding moment.”

Paris fashion week has one of the worst records when it comes to casting diverse models.

Data gathered by The Fashion Spot revealed that just 15.6 percent of models in the Spring 2015 shows were women of colour, making Paris the least inclusive of any fashion week.

It's easy to see why both Celine and Naomi were overcome with emotion, given the immense occasion.

It's happened to many of us…we're travelling to the most Instagram-able spots in the world, yet there's nobody to take photos of us in all our cultured glory.

Whether it's Niagara Falls, the Colosseum of Rome or the white sand beaches in Bali, sometimes a great candid is all we crave. Why waste the opportunity?

If your own significant other can barely hold a camera, or if you're a single solo traveller, finding somebody to capture us at our finest moment can be tedious at best.

Not all of us have a John Legend to work his magic on the lens for the sake of our followers:

Luckily for us, specialist tour operators Roma Experience are now (hilariously) offering an Instagram boyfriend to follow you around all day and get those #travelgoals snaps you've always wanted.

They spotted a gap in the market, that's for sure. Their timing couldn't be better, seeing as social media is playing a massive role in the lives of global youth.

Instagram is even acting as an influential factor in choosing a travel destination, with a ludicrous 40.1% of millennials deeming the site an important factor when considering a holiday. My God, what have we become?

The Roma Experience's 'boyfriend of Instagram' is sure to be a sell-out, offering the unsung heroes of 'likes' to women (and fellow men) from every corner of the world. Bless them.

The Instagram Boyfriend has become an obsession in its own right, with countless pages dedicated to the men who play their part in giving a partner the PERFECT shot for the feed.

Not all heroes wear capes, just selfie sticks.

You will then be emailed the iconic new pictures of you at your fiercest, fresh and ready for the gram. Or just your fridge?

The service is an additional €350 on top of the price for the full-day tour of Rome, but can you put a price on insta-worthy images? Hell no. It's 2019, this is our lifestyle now people.

Roma Experience’s Full Day Tour of Rome and Vatican City costs from €643, including all entrance fees, and private transfer from the city centre to the Vatican. The photographic service is an option extra, priced at €355.

Since Cardi B gave birth to her first child, Kulture Kiari Cephus, back in July, the rapper has somehow managed to keep the newborn totally out of the spotlight.

Zero pictures, zero videos, zero papparazzi shots. We commend the rap star for managing this feat; it's no easy accomplishment to hide a four-month-old from the limelight when you're a high-profile celebrity.

Last night, Cardi B FINALLY showed us an adorable image of her precious baby girl, and the internet has shut down with the kuteness.

The Instagram post shows baby Kulture sitting in her car seat, with a special bib with her name embroidered on it, looking like the most adorable bundle of joy wearing a pink headband and innocent little face.

We cannot handle this level of sweetness.

Cardi captioned the image; "My heart", and her 36 million followers lost their damn minds. #Kulture is already trending on Twitter, because the four-month-old was destined for social media adoration.

Offset and Cardi B, despite announcing their separation through their Instagram accounts, have insisted that they would always have love for each other for the sake of Kulture;

"He’s always somebody that I run to to talk to and we got a lot of love for each other but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time and it’s nobody’s fault."

"I guess we grew out of love, but we’re not together anymore."

How could anyone deny this fact when they look at her cute little face?

The rap goddess opened the MTV VMA show this year by holding a Moon Man swaddled in a pink blanket, tricking everyone into thinking that baby Kulture was finally going to be revealed, but it was a mere joke.

Offset replied to the separation announcement with the comment; "Y'all won".

We, for one, are just so glad to finally have received this gift of Kulture photos. What we do to deserve this?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in a stunning ceremony at St. George's Chapel on Saturday, May 19.

The wedding ceremony was full of special, intimate moments, making it feel that little bit more special.

We certainly shed a tear or ten when the charming pair exchanged their vows. 600 guests attended the moving ceremony at St. George's Chapel, including a string of Hollywood celebrities, from Oprah to George and Amal Clooney.

To thank the public for the support on their wedding day, Harry and Meghan have shared three official wedding photos from their magical day.

Kensington Palace shared: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would like to thank everyone who took part in the celebrations of their wedding on Saturday. They feel so lucky to have been able to share their day with all those gathered in Windsor and also all those who watched the wedding on television across the UK, Commonwealth, and around the world."

Our hearts are melting over these photos. The bride and groom look simply stunning.

Since Khloe revealed via Instagram that her rumoured pregnancy was true, younger sister Kylie has been under even more scrutiny than before over whether or not she too is with child.

Now, new pictures are going viral which seem to show the makeup mogul with a blossoming bump.

The images are grainy, but many are convinced that they are the KUWTK star.

A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

The snaps were first revealed on X17, a Hollywood gossip website, but they have since spread across the internet via twitter.

When pictures previously appeared of Kylie's alleged bump, the reality TV star denied hat the images were legit.

However, there has been neither a confirmation or denial from the Kardashian family that these pictures are real.

You can find the pics here, and looking at them it truly appears that the star is touting a big baby bump.

The snaps were allegedly taken in September at a birthday party for her best friend Jordyn Woods.

Getting the likes on Instagram is, to some people, a pretty important aspect of the entire posting process.

Putting the time and effort into creating and editing the perfect image can make people feel good, so posting at a prime time is worth it when you want the world to see your latest pic.

Hopper HQ has done some research into the best time to post a photo on Instagram, leading to more likes.

The best time on weekdays is between 6pm-7.30pm, simply because this is the time that most people are on the app.

Because there are more people on the app, there are more chances that your post will be engaged with, thereby garnering more likes.

11am at the weekend is also prime time to post, so get to brunch early if you want to optimise your likes on a Sunday morning.

The research also found that posts with captions do better overall, but don't make them too long, as posts with captions where the viewer has to click 'read more' receive a significantly lower amount of likes than those with short and snappy lines.

And as for filters, Gingham is the most popular and attracts the most likes and comments.

Happy snapping!

Earlier this month, Teen Mom OG’s Maci Bookout finally tied the knot with her partner of three years, Taylor McKinney.

There’s only one thing more sickening than people seeing a dodgy photo of you and that’s when that stomach flipping pic is permanently preserved in your final year yearbook.

But while many of us live to regret not asking for a reshoot on photo day, one 17-year-old New Yorker decided he would take matters into his own hands.

Unhappy with his potential yearbook picture, James Charles from Bethlehem, New York, retook his senior year photos to make sure everyone remembered just how on fleek his highlighting skills really are.

The aspiring makeup artist told BuzzFeed News that on the day of the original yearbook photoshoot the available lighting did not do his makeup justice – hate that – and so James decided to organise a shoot of his own.

Desperately in need of an “iconic” senior year picture, the teen quickly sourced a photography company who would allow him to use a ring light – a tool used by makeup artists and bloggers to ensure photos really do their skills justice – and had the photos retaken.

James was so impressed with the final results he took to Instagram to share his experience.

In a post which has since received almost 100,000 likes and nearly 5,000 comments, he wrote: “So I retook my senior photos & brought my ring light with me so my highlight would be poppin.  I love being extra.”

A tweet about the incident received a similar reaction, with even former Disney star Zendaya coming out to celebrate the move.  She retweeted James’ story with the caption “you win”.

If James’ work is good enough for Zendaya, it is definitely good enough for us!
