Over the past few years, retailers have seriously upped their games when it come to Christmas advertising campaigns – and this year is no different.

Marks and Spencer has just released its 2017 Christmas advert, starring none other than everyone's favourite marmalade-loving Peruvian, Paddington Bear.

Focused around a case of mistaken identity, the heartwarming clip follows Paddington as he accompanies a burglar around his neighbourhood, after he mistakes him for the real Santa.

Together, the unlikely pair make their way across the London suburbs, returning gifts before morning strikes.

Between sleigh rides and mince pies, the duo eventually manage to deliver all the presents back to their rightful owners, and even manage to to witness the joy on the faces of one family as they discover what Santa has left.

In the end, the thief realises the error of his ways and graciously accepts Paddington's gift of a marmalade sandwich – (spoiler: this is when the tears roll in).

The 90-second advert coincides with the release of Paddington 2, which is set to hit Irish cinemas this Friday, November 10.

We didn’t know what producers of the new Paddington Bear film were going to do when Colin Firth dropped out – but they’ve been saved by Ben Whishaw.

Who the hell is Ben Whishaw, you ask? Well, he’s the guy who played tech whizz Q in Skyfall.

Colin Firth decided to drop out of the film after it was agreed that his voice was too mature for the bear, so at just 33-years-old, Ben is a much better fit. Although, he wasn’t too keen on the idea to begin with:

“I resisted a little bit, because I had a bad experience doing this kind of work in the past and I thought I was no good at it. But I was persuaded to go, slightly grudgingly.”

He also wasn’t a big fan of Paddington Bear as a child, all he knew was that he wore a duffle coat and a hat, but he’s glad that his niece will get to enjoy one of his films: “I’m delighted that she’ll be able to see it and it’ll be my voice. She’ll know it’s Uncle Ben.”

Colin Firth has dropped out of the Paddington Bear film, saying the character simply “didn’t have my voice”.

There doesn’t seem to be any bad feeling between the actor and producers though, and he even took a sly dig at Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow saying that “after a period of denial, we’ve chosen ’conscious uncoupling’”.

We hope he doesn’t bump into the couple any time soon!

The official teaser trailer for upcoming film, Paddington, has been released and it is every bit as magical as we hoped!

Colin Firth will voice Paddington Bear and the film will also feature Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville and Julie Walters.

Paddington is being directed by Paul King and produced by David Heyman who also produced Gravity and the Harry Potter films. Expect amazing things!

We are beyond excited for this – it’s just a pity we have to wait until Christmas.  Although it does look like the perfect Christmas movie.
