organisation

Now that the New Year is upon us, most of us have gone into overdrive trying to organise our lives.

But of course, it's easier said than done and sometimes we wish we could have a personal assistant by our side to remind us how to operate (because we forgot sometimes).

Well, now it may be simpler than before as there are personal assistant apps to help you out. Just imagine a little Lloyd from Entourage in your life:

1. Google Now

According to the app store, Google Now is the "intelligent personal assistant". This app organises just about everything you can imagine and will give you assistance all day, everyday.

Your info is organised into personalised cards that will provide you with just about everything you need, without you having to spend time searching.

2. Quip

If Mark Zuckerberg uses it, then we might as well use it too. Quip is known to be one of the best apps out there and is pretty much the virtual office used by Facebook and Instagram. It allows users to collaborate with others on various documents, spreadsheets and checklists.

This is especially handy if your New Years Resolution is to get more organised in work.

3. Wunderlist

If you love lists or simply need something to organise your thoughts, then Wunderlist is for you. The app organises your productivity and sets out classic to-do lists for each day/week.

You can also share lists with others, which is handy for organising nights out, family dinners, etc.

4. Speaktoit

Speaktoit is pretty much Siri after she has been promoted. The app lets you make calls, send texts and search the web, all the while remembering everything from your favourites. All you have to do is, you've guessed it, speak to it.

It will answer all of your questions, perform tasks while your busy and even give you social media updates.

5. 24me

If you're a forgetful person, then this app will work as your second brain. It generates reminders for everything like important work meetings, girls nights out and even paying bills.

24me combines your calendar, to-do lists and notes all in one handy place. It also syncs with social media apps to send messages to your friends or give you reminders for important birthdays.

If you need some pointers in how to make your days run a little smoother then allow us to help you! They say the key to success is organisation, and they may have been onto something, we hate to admit…

A little effort on a Sunday evening goes a long way in making your working/study week go a lot smoother.

1. Paperwork
As we enter adulthood, we accumulate more and more paperwork. Not only this but we take control of our own finances, insurance and medical issues. To make this a little easier, invest in some organising folders and keep everything together, rather than in a bundle under the TV.

2. Clothes
Picking out outfits in the morning can be one of life’s hardest decisions. You pick a skirt and then realise the only top that goes with it is in the wash so you’re back to the drawing board. On a Sunday, take a half an hour to open your closet and create five outfits. Place them together on a hanger each and hey presto – five outfits done for Monday to Friday. We think that deserves an extra ten minutes in bed, don’t you?!

3. Cleaning schedule
To keep your home looking and smelling clean and tidy, make a simple schedule that will ensure each room gets attention at least once a week.

4. Meals
Again, a little effort on a Sunday will go a long way for the week. By making a batch of granola or a large soup/stew, you can easily have breakfast and lunch or dinner set for the week. That way, you will only have one meal to prepare every day. Relief! If you’re really dedicated on the rest day, you could get it all done…The freezer is your friend!

5. Diaries and calendars
If you are the type of person who forgets what day you are meant to meet your friend and accidentally make other plans – this is for you. Hang a calendar in your kitchen and circle days you have plans and what they are. Equally, keep a diary and make lots of lists of things that need to be done each day. Even if you don't have a busy schedule. nothing quite beats looking at a completed list at the end of a day! Even if it just says "Eat Oreos"…

Give everything its own space – and stick to it.
If you can clearly see where something belongs, you’ll put it there. Whereas if everything is in a jumble in your room you’ll just go along with it. Create a system!

If you don’t need it, bin it
Holding on to things you don’t need will just create clutter, and it’s very hard to be organised when you’re surrounded by clutter!

Keep important documents in one place
Bills, birth certs, tax documents – all these things get lost very easily but are very important. Keep them all in the same place so you remember where they are.

Storage boxes
If you’re short on actual storage space you can always get clear plastic boxes and use them instead. At least everything will have somewhere to go when you’re finished with it.

USE your calendar
It’s not just there as a decoration you know (though Mr. June is looking VERY well). Make use of your calendar so you don’t forget important dates.

Make lists
We all love making lists, don’t we? They’re good stress relievers too because once you have it down on a list you don’t have to keep mentally reminding yourself of what you have to do!

Get a good handbag
They’re getting bigger everyday, so it’s easy to lose things in the depths of your handbag. Having one with different sections is a good idea as you can designate areas, and you won’t spend ten minutes looking for your purse when you’re at the check out!

What are your three most important tasks?
Identify the top three things that you absolutely have to get done in one day. Prioritising is the key to success people!

Learn to say no
If you find that your to-do list keeps getting longer because of requests from other people, learn to say no. You need to be aware of you limitations, and it’s nothing to feel guilty about.

Do it now!
Stop procrastinating! If it can be done today, do it today. Obviously don’t stress yourself out, but if you find yourself putting things off just because of laziness, then give yourself a mental slap, get up off the sofa, and Get. It. Done.
