Today is officially One-Hit Wonder day, so we thought there was no better time to celebrate some of our favourites – those hugely popular songs from artists we’d never heard of before or since.

Whether you’re the first to the dance floor in Coppers or you’re a bit more refined in your musical tastes, we guarantee you’ll be bopping along to these epic tunes. Nobody has to know what you're listening to – that’s what headphones are for!

1. Kiss Me – Sixpence None The Richer
Fans of Dawson’s Creek or She’s All That will remember this song with a large helping of nostalgia. The 1997 hit featured on the soundtracks for both. This tune definitely fits into the “guilty pleasure” category! Hands up who knows all the words? #sorrynotsorry

2. There She Goes – The La’s
This 1990 hit is pure pop perfection and is best sung along to while driving with the windows wide open. Liverpool band The La’s did reform in 2005 and again in 2011 but there have been no new singles as yet…  Don’t worry, we’re happy enough with this one, thanks!

3. Barbie Girl – Aqua
Die-hard fans of Europop group Aqua might argue that Dr. Jones and Turn Back Time were “hits” too but we all know that Barbie Girl was the band’s real success. With hard-hitting lyrics such as “Life in plastic, it’s fantastic,” this 1997 song was a guaranteed hit for the cheese factor alone.

4. 1 Thing – Amerie
We challenge you not to dance the next time this is played in a bar or club. TUNE. Amerie did go on to release two more albums but 1 Thing, released in 2005, was her one big hit. We’re going to have this on repeat for the rest of the day if you don’t mind….

5. Cotton Eye Joe – Rednex
Alongside Amhrán na bhFiann, this is surely THE signature song of Coppers – and nightclubs in small towns around the country. C’mon, don’t pretend you don’t know the dance moves. We see you kicking those heels.

6. I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) – The Proclaimers
Another messy night out favourite. This 1988 hit still gets plenty of plays so we hope the lads are cashing in on the royalties. Scottish band The Proclaimers did have some further success, but they never reached the dizzy heights of 500 Miles again.

7. Somebody That I Used To Know – Gotye
As this song was only released in 2012, we can’t technically call Gotye a one-hot wonder yet but he has been fairly quiet on the new releases front since. We love this tune – if you’ve broken up with someone in the last 2 years you’ve probably belted this out at some point or another!
