A young man has died following a hit-and-run incident in Liverpool on Friday night.

The 24-year-old, originally from Northern Ireland, was visiting the city for a stag party when he was struck by a grey BMW on The Strand near to the Hilton Hotel at about 11.40pm.

According to The Liverpool Echo, the driver of the car sped off southbound away from the city as passersby rushed to help the man.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and attended to the victim before taking him to the Royal Liverpool Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Earlier today, police seized a vehicle they believe meets the description of that used in the hit-and-run, and it is currently being examined by detectives.

A full investigation has been launched and authorities are appealing for anyone with information, or anyone who might had dash-cam footage of the incident to come forward.

Inspector Danny Harris from the roads policing unit said: “This is an extremely serious incident in which a young man has tragically died.”

“We need anyone who saw the collision or remembers seeing a grey or silver-coloured BMW in or around this area to come forward.”

The man's identity has not yet been released.

Former Liverpool footballer, Jason McAteer, opened up about his battle with depression on Friday night.

In an interview on the Late Late Show, Jason revealed that he suffered from suicidal thoughts after he retired from professional football.

"Your friends are not there and it's very, very difficult and I suffered from a bad bout of depression to be fair. I got really messed up" he told host Ryan Tubridy.

Jason also spoke about having suicidal thoughts, remembering one time in particular:

"I was driving through the Mersey Tunnel to pick my son Harry up from school, and I just thought I could end all this now."

"I could just take this car and I could quit this now but Harry's image come into my head. Then I thought what about an oncoming car" he continued.

The former International star said that after the experience in the car, he drove to his mum's home where he finally broke down.

Since then, Jason has sought help for his depression, and has been doing great!

Last night, Nathan Carter appeared on RTÉ and gave a beautiful tribute to the Hillsborough disaster.

The singer appeared on The Late Late Show and sang Liverpool, to honour all the lives taken in Sheffield in 1989.

The anniversary of the tragic event was held this month where a human crush caused the deaths of 96 people and injured 766 others at a football match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

Friends fans should probably brace themselves because there is exciting news for all of us.

A café has been created that is an actual replica of the Central Perk. They even have the orange couch, lads.

The Central Perk café in Liverpool is pretty much as amazing as the one from the beloved sitcom, except there's always a queue for THAT couch.

That doesn’t really matter though because everything else is pretty on point. From the light fixtures to the red brick walls the place was designed to make people feel like they are on the actual set of the show.

While Friends may have come to an end in 2004, Gunther has seen something of a renaissance as according to the website, this Central Perk comes with its very own Gunther.

This is the first time a full-scale replica of the coffee house has been created in the UK, aside from a one-off pop-up in London a while back. This is much more impressive though, mostly because it is there to stay!

Another bonus; they have open mic nights, and Smelly Cat merchandise. Some night they promise to even play back to back episodes of the sitcom.

Oh, and they do a ‘Gunther’s birthday surprise’ offer. So if it’s your birthday then you get a free coffee.

There is also a script signed by the cast from The One With The Red Sweater, as well as the blackboard.

Remember how excited Rachel was about writing on the specials board? That’s how excited all the Friends fans feel about this coffee shop.

Ok, so it is in Liverpool but that is so much closer than New York, it’s much more doable.

Weekend away anyone?

Paris Hilton was today en route to Liverpool from London, but rather than opt for a helicopter or chauffeur-driven car, the reality TV star and socialite decided to make the three-hour journey via train.

Next stop – Liverpool!

A photo posted by Paris Hilton (@parishilton) on

Sitting comfortably in a Virgin first-class carriage this morning, the 34-year-old happily posted pictures to her Instagram account of her unassuming commute.

Paris, who is worth €90m, would have paid as little as €100 for her ticket.

She is in the UK to promote her new perfume and this afternoon is at a branch of Superdrug in Liverpool to meet and greet fans.

Incredibly this is her 18th fragrance in just 11 years – her very first offering, Paris Hilton for women, was released back in 2004 at the height of her fame and went on to be an international best-seller.

Yesterday, the heiress also treated herself to a stealth London shopping spree: donning a short, dark wig and giant sunglasses she hit Topshop’s flagship store on Oxford Circus.

Wearing comfortable-looking skinny jeans and a €155 Johnson herringbone bow sweater, she picked up a haul of accessories and clothing – all packed into six large carrier-bags.

She’s clearly a big Topshop fan too. “Always find the cutest clothes and accessories there!” she said of the Philip Green-owned store afterwards.

Ms Hilton only arrived in London from Los Angeles yesterday – and came with no fewer than eight suitcases for her trip.

After her UK stopover, she travels to Cannes for a DJ gig before moving on to Mexico. Her new single, High Off My Love, is released on Friday.

Planning on a city break but stuck for ideas of where to go? To take the pressure off, we have found the hottest places to visit this year:

Berlin
If you have never been to Berlin, now is the time. Germany’s capital is vibrant and full of culture. What’s more, the city is cheap in comparison to the rest of Europe.

Liverpool
Shopping, cheap booze and excellent restaurants means this city is the perfect setting for a girly weekend away.  Fans of the Beatles will also be in heaven.

Riga
If you love  architecture then this is the place for you.  The city is one of the most cosmopolitan of the Baltic capitals and it combines medieval with modern. The beautiful Latvian capital is also the European Capital of Culture for 2014 so it is well worth a trip.

Think of us while you are sipping cocktails at sunset…
