Knowing what ingredients we are putting into our bodies is vital.

Salt and sugar might add delicious flavour to our foods, but often processed foods in particular are laden with them, leading us to go above our recommended daily intake regularly.

Lidl Ireland has today announced that over 850 of their own-brand products are currently being assessed for ways to reduce their salt and sugar intake.

The affordable supermarket brand have pledged to create a 20% reduction in added sugar as well as reducing salt levels by the year 2020.

In their sugar reductions, the brand will be focusing on reducing levels in items targeted to or enjoyed by children.

For salt, Lidl will focus on everyday meal items, including ready meals, soups, pizzas, crisps, cakes and meat products.

'The food and retail industry can make a positive contribution to the prevention of obesity, so it s important we work in partnership to achieve a reduction in the amount fat, salt and sugar in foods eaten regularly by consumers, said  Minister for Health Simon Harris, commending the move.

'I want to commend Lidl for this initiative to reduce the sugar and salt content of many of their own brand products to help create a healthier food environment.'

'This is something I hope others will replicate.'

The positive contribution to the nations' health will aim to fall in with the UK's Food Standards Agency targets for salt reductions.

The World Heath Organisation has found previously that the consumption of excess sugars can contribute to weight gain and obesity.

The UK Arctic blast may be heading towards Ireland, according to the predictions of weather experts Met Éireann and Midland Channel.

There's a possibility of heavy snow and disruptions, so people are preparing for some seriously cold frost.

If the UK's forecast is anything to go by, severe sleet could hit the country this weekend. The UK are facing severe sleet and snow at the moment, which could easily come our way.

According to the Midland Channel;

"As skies remain clear this evening temperatures will fall away quiet rapidly across the country with a widespread ground frost likely as air temperatures dip to as low as -2 or -3 degrees Celsius.

"Showers during the day have lead to rather damp road conditions and as temperatures fall below freezing some icy stretches are likely. Do take care if you are travelling this evening, especially on secondary roads."

If anyone remembers the Beast From the East in 2018, they can recall the chaos caused by the snow. I mean, a Lidl was destroyed for God's sake.

A yellow warning for snow and ice across the country has been issued by the Met Office, who are calling the warning an "arctic blast".

Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna said:

"Things are turning colder, but it is just more typical winter conditions. It has been so mild this winter that it will be a bit of a shock to the system even though temperatures will be average for this time of year or just below."

Met Éireann also claimed that Ireland possibly could see a fall of snow on Thursday night.

"The freshening southerly winds will become strong southeasterly on Thursday night ahead of rain developing in the west."

"Temperatures will be below freezing in places and the rain will be preceded for a time by a fall of snow as it spreads eastwards across the country."

Batten down the hatches, lads, and whip out the blankets ASAP.

With Body and Soul, Longtitude and Electric Picnic just around the corner it's time to start thinking about your festival wardrobe.

While Lidl may be our prime destination for affordable avocados and cupboard staples, that magical middle aisle is always worth a browse.

The fash-huns at Lidl are launching a summer collab with supermodel Heidi Klum – and one piece in particular is calling our name for festival season.

This long line kimono is exactly the vibe we want to establish for our festival aesthetic.

At a mere €12.99, it's definitely not going to break the bank either.

If you're popping in for your cans for Body & Soul this month, nab one from 155 stores nationwide in sizes 8 to 16.

We can see ourselves teaming this statement but classic piece with some black denim shorts, chunky black boots and fishnet tights for festival season.

Once the glitter has faded from our faces, it's being draped over a crop top and blue jeans for summer brunch with the gals.

The #LETSLOVESUMMER collection will be available Monday June 18.

The Christmas lights are up, the shops are packed with sparkly dresses and the party season well and truly upon us.

And seeing as this year's festivities are already in full swing, it's high time we start stocking our kitchens with all the essential holiday treats.

With that in mind, Lidl has just announced the launch of an Organic Prosecco which is due to hit shelves just in time for New Year's Eve.

The limited edition Prosecco, made with organically grown grapes, will be available in Lidl's 154 stores nationwide for €14.99 from December 27.

Richard Bampfield, Master of Wine said of the Prosecco, "Relatively little Prosecco is made from organically grown grapes, so this is somewhat special and is a particularly expressive example. With bright aromas of pear and white peach, it is not too dry, well balanced and ideal for drinking with friends over the festive period."

So, what does organic means when it comes to wine?

Lidl helps dispel the top three most common myths.

MYTH 1: Organic is More Expensive

Organic may mean less intensive farming practices, but it does require longer periods of work and produce lower yields. However, this this not mean the price of the product has to suffer. Priced at €14.99, Lidl's limited edition Organic Prosecco shows that organic doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg.

MYTH 2: Organic Only Applies to Food

The term 'organic' isn't limited to just food. Lidl's Organic Prosecco Spumante DOC is produced using organically grown grapes, however the cellars are also cleaned purely with recycled water, and the vineyards are managed without the use of chemical fertiliser, herbicide, pesticides and insecticides.

MYTH 3: Drinking Organic Prosecco Means Compromising on Taste

Due to the less intensive farming practice, the grapes are able to fully express their flavour. Lidl's Organic Prosecco Spumante DOC, made using native Glera grapes from the Veneto region, is well balanced, not too dry with bright aromas of pear and white peach.

Lidl's Organic Prosecco Spumante DOC is available in 154 stores nationwide from December 27 while stocks last.

When you think Lidl, you most likely think groceries, nifty deals and great prices.

However, the affordable grocery store's coveted middle aisle recently had a visit from the designing talents of supermodel Heidi Klum, and while her original collection sold out, it's time for a brand new season.

Heidi Klum's range for Lidl is returning, but this time with a party wear twist.

The new #LETSCELEBRATE season features a festive smattering of sequins, as well as one of the most elegant and versatile jumpsuits we have seen in quite a while.

Also in the new line are some staple high heels to see us all the way through the party season.

Whether glitter adorned or with a faux leather finish, we've never needed less of an excuse to justify purchasing these wardrobe staples.

'I wanted to create a simple, elegant fashion line that will make us shine over the festive season,' Heidi said.

Coat €26.99, Sequin blazer €24.99

This sequin blazer has got to be one of the trophy pieces from Heidi's new party collection.

Teamed with a soft white t-shirt, jeans and heels. this blazer adds the perfect party pop to an otherwise casual NYE outfit.

As for keeping warm on those nights out, this white faux fur collared coat will keep your outfit under wraps until you reach your party venue, as well as keeping you nice and toasty.

Jumpsuit €12.99, Sequin dress €19.99

Along with heels and glamorous party wear, the collection also includes some sensible but stylish coats to wrap up in this winter.

In classic winter shades like black and burgundy, these wear-with-anything coats are top of our wish lists.

And coming in at around €26.99 each, they're a more affordable alternative to plenty of the classic styles available on the high street.

Coats €26.99 each

'I had so much fun designing the pieces in this collection,' Heidi said previously.

'I’m proud to partner with them on this fashion collaboration,' she added.

'I can't wait for you to see it. I hope you love it as much as I do.'

Heels €24.99 each

The collection launches in all 154 stores nationwide on December 4.

If like us, you're a chocolate lover who's partial to the odd tipple, then oh boy, have we got news for you.

Lidl are about to launch a brand new 'Best of Ireland' range next week, which is set to include one of the most delicious treats we've ever laid eyes on – introducing, the gin and tonic chocolate bar.

The Skelligs chocolate bar will come in three mouth-watering flavours including, Irish Honey, Irish Sea Salt and Gin and Tonic, and honestly, we can't wait to get out hands on all three.

Skelligs, the family run, Kerry-based company with some kind of sixth sense when it comes to flavour combinations, had this to say about their latest creation:

"The fresh lively flavours of this sophisticated tipple are recreated by adding crushed juniper berries and lime zest to our rich dark chocolate. Perfectly acceptable at any time of day.”

We couldn't agree more.

The range will hit Lidl stores across the country on September 11, costing just €1.99, but be quick – these will surely fly off the shelves.

A woman has fallen in love in Lidl, but the man got away.

The unknown woman had been shopping in the supermarket in Deansgrange yesterday, when she noticed a man behind her in the queue.

She let the man in front of her in the line, and said that they spoke for a minute before he left the store.

And now she wants to find him.

Posted on Twitter by Rachel Kavanagh, the message was first shared in an admin group on Facebook, and Rachel thinks more people need to know about it.

The screen-shot message said: "Were you in Lidl, Deansgrange today, Tuesday 13th June at approx 2:15 (sic).

"You purchased cherry tomatoes, feta cheese and water? I'm the lady that let you ahead of me in the queue & we exchanged a few words," she wrote.

"I wish I'd had the courage to find out if you were single without coming across as completely deranged.

"If you know who this man is, please get in touch with Admin (sic)," the noted ended.

We'd love if these two Lidl shoppers found their way to each other!
