Unwin played Jesse McGregor from 2996 until 2000, and then again from 2002 until 2005.

“The cast and crew of Home and Away are saddened to hear the passing of Ben Unwin,” the show’s Facebook pages posted today. “We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ben.”

Many former cast members have shared tributes following Unwin’s death, such as Kimberly Cooper, who played Gypsy Nash on the show.

"We had years of laughter, be it giggles on set trying to get through scenes as lovers or doubled over belly laughs at the pubs after work. I will be sad for now, but I promise to tell stories of great joy about our times together."

After Ben left Home and Away for good, Unwin studied law and later became a solicitor in Sydney.

He also dabbled in music video directing for the song Tubthumping for British band Chumbawamba.

Former Home and Away actress Bonnie Sveen has announced she is expecting identical twins. The expectant mum admitted that she is due in a mere six weeks in an honest interview with New Idea.

“I’m 30 weeks pregnant now and I’m due in about six weeks, so the first week of October. We wanted to fall pregnant in 2018, we both wanted to start a family but then it happened super quick.”

The soon-to-be mum was alone when she found out she was expecting and admitted telling her husband via FaceTime was slightly disappointing.

“I really didn’t want to tell Nath on FaceTime so that was a bit crap, but it was also just a massive flood of excitement. It was bittersweet with him not being there.”

Bonnie found out she was expecting identical twins when she was 19 weeks pregnant. The 29-year-old said she was stunned when their doctor told her the news.

“I cried. I cried for a while. I was thinking, ‘How am I going to do this?’ It’s our first baby and now it’s two. The pregnancy, the risk, the birth itself – everything.”

Despite her fears, Bonnie and husband Nathan were overjoyed when the reality hit them. The duo both come from big families so they cannot wait to welcome two more additions.

When the news finally sunk in Bonnie admitted she couldn’t contain her joy: “I was over the moon – happy crying, laughing, while Nathan was left with an open jaw.”

The Home and Away alum has yet to find out the sex of her babies, explaining that she wants it to be a surprise when she gives birth.

Home and Away actress Jessica Falkholt has passed away following a tragic car crash that also claimed the lives of her parents and her sister.

The actress received serious injuries in the accident, which left her on life-support for nearly three weeks.

St George’s Hospital in Sydney released a statement following her death, stating that the young woman died at 10:20 am on Wednesday after her life support was turned off on Friday.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts honoured the late actress this morning.

They tweeted, 'Vale Jessica Falkholt. The Australian actress has passed away following a major crash on Boxing Day that claimed the lives of her mother, father and sister. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.'

The producers of the Aussie soap, where the actress played Hope Morrison until 2016, paid tribute to her: 'Jessica’s shining talent was recognised and respected by all her castmates and crew and her beautiful friendship treasured.'

Home and Away star Jackson Heywood also shared a touching tribute: 'Jess. You and your beautiful soul will be so deeply missed but always remembered. Be with your family now.'

Her agent Lisa Mann added: 'Beautiful Jess was loved and treasured by her family, friends and colleagues and our sympathies are with everyone today.'

The St Stephen’s Day car crash also claimed the life of another driver who was named as 50-year-old Craig Whitall.

Today is Australia Day, and what better way to mark it than by looking back at some of the hottest Aussies ever to grace our screens?

Home and Away is somewhat of a TV institution in Ireland, mainly thanks to its tanned, toned stars.

Growing up, we harboured massive crushes on the gorgeous surfer dudes, and their six-packs didn't hurt either.

We genuinely believed there was no such thing as unattractive people Down Under…here's why:

1. Darryl 'Brax' Braxton/ Steve Peacocke

This wasn't really a teenage crush, it was more of a full-blown adult one. Bad boy Brax set many hearts a-flutter, despite his ill-advised River Boy tattoos and womanising ways.

2. Heath Braxton/ Dan Ewing

The Braxton brothers were truly a gift from the soap gods. Brax's brother Heath had the best body in the Bay and was a total heartbreaker.

4. Noah Lawson/ Beau Brady

We all swooned over Noah and his trademark spiky frosted tips back in the day. Noah and girlfriend Hayley were #couplegoals! Noah's real name, Beau Brady, was equally romantic – beautiful name for a beautiful man!

4. Vinnie Patterson/ Ryan Kwanten

Who can forget Vinnie Patterson? Handsome Vinnie attracted many ladies but eventually ended up with his true love, Leah.

Unlucky Vinnie was ripped away from Leah and baby VJ after being wrongfully convicted for fraud, and languished in prison before a faked death and a spell in witness protection. He reappeared as a bear (yes, really), before dying for real.

Phew! Did we mention he had cancer, also? Poor Vinnie!

5. Nick Smith/ Chris Egan

Nick looked very sweet and innocent with his blonde hair and blue eyes, but he was far from it!

Nick romanced Jade Sutherland until Hollywood fame came calling for him, and he quickly dropped poor Jade for the bright lights of LA. Harsh!

6. Robbie Hunter/ Jason Smith

Robbie didn't enjoy the same heart-throb status as some of the other hunks, but there was something very adorable about him. We loved his geeky glasses!

His devotion to girlfriend Tasha was certainly admirable, even helping her escape a crazy cult.

7. Kim Hyde/ Chris Hemsworth

Kim was frequently seen with his shirt off during his time in Summer Bay. It didn't do actor Chris Hemsworth's career any harm, though; he's gone on to star in Thor and several big movies. Those Hemsworth genes should be bottled…

8. Scott Irwin/ Heath Ledger

Scott enjoyed a brief fling with Sally Fletcher before being expelled for stealing an exam paper.

Heath was arguably one of the best actors to come out of the soap and enjoyed Hollywood success before his tragic death.

Let us know if we've missed your favourite hottie! Happy Australia Day!

Well, hello there.

Did anyone else start watching Home and Away back in the day just to look at all the beautiful lads? We did.

Throughout the years, many glorious men and women have featured in the Aussie soap, and recently, one of them came to Ireland to give his thoughts on First Dates Ireland.

Bizarre, we know.

George Mason, who plays Ash on Home and Away, never actually went on a date, but he watched from behind-the-scenes and gave his reactions and advice to the unlucky-in-love daters.

His full interview will be released after First Dates Ireland airs on Thursday, and you can catch it on the RTÉ Player.

Ed Sheeran fans, get the popcorn ready for 6.30pm tonight.

Earlier in the year Ed filmed a cameo on popular Aussie soap Home And Away, and though it's already aired Down Under, Irish viewers have yet to see the singer's appearance.

But that's about the change this evening as RTÉ2 are finally set to air the episode.

The Thinking Out Loud singer will make a visit to Summer Bay to visit his old nanny, Marilyn Chambers, played by long-standing cast member Emily Symons.

When Marilyn tells residents that her darling 'Teddy' is coming to see her, nobody is any the wiser… until Ed himself shows up and treats the town to a surprise performance in The Diner.

Ed headed to Summer Bay in the middle of his hectic Australia and New Zealand touring schedule, but he says giving up his precious free time was a no-brainer.

It's an Australian institution. It's always on in my local chip shop," he said.

"I got asked to do it and it sounded like it could be fun. I did Shortland Street in New Zealand… and I'm sure if Emmerdale or EastEnders ever ask me in England I would do that as well."

We can't wait to see tonight's episode.

While touring Australia back in March, Ed Sheeran made a stop at  the Home and Away set in Sydney to film with the cast, and now his cameo scenes are set to premiere.

At the time all details of the singer's appearance on the popular Aussie drama were kept under wraps, with producers confirming only that Ed would play himself. Now we've finally been blessed with the details and it sounds like Ed's episode will make for brilliant viewing.

The Thinking Out Loud singer will apparently make a visit to Summer Bay to visit his old nanny, Marilyn Chambers, played by long-standing cast member Emily Symons.

When Marilyn tells residents that her darling 'Teddy' is coming to see her, nobody is any the wiser… until Ed himself shows up and treats the town to a surprise performance in The Diner.

While Ed's cameo is set to air on Australian TV in the next week or two, the fact that Ireland and the UK are at least a month behind on episodes means that we may have to wait a while to watch it on this side of the world.

Taking time out from a hectic touring schedule to film on set was a no-brainer for Ed, who says he grew up with Home and Away. "It's an Australian institution. It's always on in my local chip shop," he said.

"I got asked to do it and it sounded like it could be fun. I did Shortland Street in New Zealand as well and I'm sure if Emmerdale or EastEnders ever ask me in England I would do that as well."

Cast member Alec Snow, who plays Matt Page in the long-running soap, said the singer was extremely easy to work with and "a really down-to-earth, nice guy that genuinely wanted to be there."

First stop Summer Bay, next stop Fair City's Carrigstown? We could definitely see Ed sitting down to a pint in McCoy's…

Great news for any Home and Away fans, Braxton is set to make a return to the Australian television series in the coming months.

The hottie was spotted on set in Summer Bay, but it is not yet confirmed how long he will be returning for.

Steve Peacocke who plays Brax was supposedly killed off in a car crash in June but it seems his secret is going to be revealed.

During an interview with The Sunday Telegraph the actor said: "It will be an interesting little twist. While Brax is in the Bay it will spice things up a bit, I think.

"I can't say anything about what is going to happen, but it is something the audience is going to love, which is part of why I thought it would be a nice book end. It is a cool story and it's going to pack a punch."

It seems the actor is more than happy to return to the show he has been working on since 2011 and he said the series helped launch his career.

"The show has been so good to me in terms of launching my career, so it is just something I always wanted to do – if there was any way I could be a part of something in the future."

"It is a nice little surprise. It was a good story the producers put to me, so I thought it is a nice way to see everyone for a bit.

When Brax left the show, he was presumed dead by the population of the Bay, but his sister Billie was the only character who knew he actually had just decided to leave Summer Bay.

Home and Away actress Erika Heynatz has taken to Instagram to announce some fabulous news. Erika, 39, and her husband of 8 years Andrew Kingston are expecting their first child.

The former Australia’s Next Top Model host shared the news with her followers by posting a cute snap of her ultrasound in a cartoon template.

Followers and cast mates of the actress quickly tweeted their congratulations and shared in the couple’s excitement.

"Omg @erikaheynatz I'm so excited and thrilled for u! Over the moon!!! Congrats to both of u,'"Ada Nicodemou, who plays Leah on the soap,  wrote.

Erika has just recently made her debut on the Aussie soap as the new biology teacher at Summer Bay High.

On Tuesday photos emerged from on-set that showcased the blonde’s growing baby bump as she filmed for the show at Palm Beach in Sydney.  It has not been confirmed as of yet whether Erika’s pregnancy will be written into the soap’s storyline.

Last year rumours began circling that the star was expecting after photos were taken of her while running in Sydney and was supposedly sporting a noticeable bump.

The svelte beauty quickly put these rumours to rest however when she was pictured at the beach shortly after with her husband wearing a tiny bikini and owning an enviously toned midsection.

Andrew is a finance broker in Sydney and the pair married in 2007. As well as landing a role on the long-running Home and Away, Erika has also starred in Legally Blonde the musical and Rocky Horror Picture Show.

It might be a while before she introduces her new bundle of joy to that particular project.

Alf Stewart visited Ireland last week, and when he wasn't teaching bar staff the "best" approach to customer service, he was schooling us all on how to act like a full-blown Aussie.

Actor Ray Meagher headed to RTÉ to teach the Republic of Telly crew a thing or two about acting – and stealing the scene with a few Alf-approved quotes.

Worth it just to see Bernard and Kevin in those stylish Summer Bay High dresses… but where were the oversized schoolbags, lads?

Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick certainly had an Easter weekend to remember as she tied the knot to fiancée, Rosie Nicholls.

The couple married in a ceremony in Yorkshire and Michelle shared a beautiful photo of herself with her new wife, writing: “I can honestly say that yesterday was the best day of my life… Thank you to my wife @rosiebone.”

Michelle, who plays Vanessa Woodfield in the soap, had previously told fans that she asked Rosie to marry her while on holiday in Gran Canaria at the beginning of this year.

The wedding was a soap-star studded event, naturally but we’re not sure we expected to see Home and Away’s Lynne McGranger there.

The Australian actress shared a photo of herself with Michelle, writing: “Two of my favourite people @chellehardwick … #bestday #beautifulbrides #danbycastle.”

It's no Surf Club, but Cork bar Sober Lane got a dose of Aussie culture this week when Home and Away star Ray Meagher dropped in.

Ray, best known for his role as Alf Stewart, schooled Sober Lane's employees on everything from customer service to work ethic… though his methods seem a little questionable!

If you happen to visit Cork in the near future only to have a barman dip his finger in your pint, you can confidently assume he learned it from Alf…
