dating advice

Are you ready to start dating again after a brutal break-up or determined to find ‘the one’? Then make a note of January 5 in your diary because it is reportedly the best day for online dating.

Online dating isn’t for everyone, but many met their beau on here, Tinder, Bumble and co. and the rest is history.

According to Coffee Meets Bagel, this Sunday, January 5 will be one of the most popular days for online dating with millions of messages expected to be sent.

January tends to be one of the busiest months for dating apps and there’s actually a pretty valid reason why. We have spent the holidays with our families and if you’re a single lady then all they tend to ask is when you’re going to settle down? And if you’ve heard from lovely George you kissed when you were in primary school?

These questions may drive us crazy but they do leave you pondering about your love life.

Another thing that encourages us to sign up to dating apps is being surrounded by love during the holiday season. Christmas and New Year is a joyous time of year, especially for couples. It can make people seem extra lovey dovey, whether that’s your aunt and her husband or Jude Law and Cameron Diaz in The Holiday.

That lovin’ feeling can be infectious so no wonder single folk are eager to find a decent lad or lady once January rolls around.

Speaking to Quartz, dating expert Dawoon Kang explained: “Dating Sunday is a mixture of New Year’s resolutions and winding down the weekend.”

Happy swiping everyone.

When it comes to marriage advice, we're pretty sceptical. It nearly always comes across as patronising, annoying, or just plain sexist. Men don't get the constant stream of wedding and baby pressure that women do.

There's no shortage of dating advice online and in magazines, even in books like He's Just Not That Into You.

It's time to turn to better sources for comfort, and ones from back in time. The Suffragette's seem like a good place to start… They fought for the right to vote and now we want the right NOT to devote.

Seeing as it's Valentine's Day, it would be rude of us not to share this HILARIOUS piece of advice from a "suffragette wife" which went viral, acccording to Stylist.

The advice was first penned in 1911, and it's still hella relevant today. Entitled 'Advice on Marriage to Young Ladies', the gal holds nothing back and takes zero prisoners.

The first tip? "Do not marry at all." She's starting us off with a big one, that's for sure.

Continuing, the woman writes about the types of men to avoid. Think modern day f*ckboys. She refers to them as, “the Beauty Men, Flirts, and the Bounders, Tailor’s Dummies, and the Football Enthusiasts”.

When it comes to decent marriage prospects, choose a "strong, tame man" who is involved in practical professions, such as a "Fire-lighter, Coal-getter, Window Cleaner and Yard Swiller”. We haven't a notion what a yard swiller is, but it sounds chic.

The suffragette also tells us that the standard of men is dastardly low; most are “lazy, selfish, thoughtless, lying, drunken, clumsy, heavy-footed, rough, unmanly brutes, and need taming”.

How do you tame a man back in 1911, and today? The answer is pretty obvious: food. "Feed the brute," in her words. LOL.

Her final tip recalls her first; you'd "be wiser not to chance" marriage, because it "isn't worth the risk." The post was shared last year as well and also went viral, so it seems that modern day women can still relate to the tip sheet.

It's over 100 years old, but still resonates with today's audience. Interesting, does that mean men haven't progressed at all, or we're still stuck in 1911? We can't tell…

With the breakdown of her engagement to Nick Young and the revelations that Nick’s ex is now pregnant with his child, Iggy Azalea has been having a seriously tough time over the last few weeks.

But thankfully model Amber Rose is on hand to offer Iggy her support.

On Saturday, Amber shared a heartfelt message on Instagram in which she tells the Australian rapper she understands what she’s going though and encourages her to stay strong despite the drama.

She wrote: “My heart goes out to you@thenewclassic I have been through heartbreak as well so I know what ur going through.”

“Stay strong and keep ur head up my Rosebuds and I support you and we think ur AMAZING!!! Not only beautiful but extremely talented!”

“I remember watching ur YouTube videos a few years back thinking ‘Wow this girl is gonna be a star’ and you are!”

“Let all the hate go in one ear and out the other…. Trust me I deal with just as much hate if not more."

Towards the end of the post, the sweet message takes a true Amber Rose twist as she tells Iggy to go “be a hoe” for the summer.

Our college years can be the most or least productive of our lives, so who you date while in college is completely your call. But, after you graduate, you have got to think about your future. You need to make choices that will work for you in the long run and dating the wrong type of guy will only hold you back from being the SHEmazing person you can be.

1. The Cocky Guy
It may have been slick in college the way he loved himself and had the confidence of Spencer Matthews, but now it will be annoying. In the big bad world no one likes someone who thinks they are better than everyone. So, ditch him now or forever hold your peace.

2. The Jack The Lad
He loves that he is “one of the lads”. He doesn’t take much seriously and if you ever ask him where he is, he will call you “clingy”. He is not mature enough for you. Let him go.

3. The Gym King
He is in love with one thing and one thing only – the gym. He takes longer to get ready than you and he spends all his money on tan beds. Dump this fella.

4. The Bottler
If you are scoring a guy and you have been together for a while, but he hasn’t asked you out yet, don’t hold your breath. And, if it has been a year and you are now finished college and still hoping for a relationship – end it now. He will either come crawling back or stay away. At least now you will know if he is worth it.

5. The Slut
Every girl thinks they can change the slutty guy. They think that this man-whore will change his ways for them. Well, he won’t. Don’t bother and if you do, keep it a brief thing. You will most likely get hurt and you don’t need that when you are getting your life together.

6. The Commitment-Phobe
If he is a commitment-phobe now he won’t change once you leave college. Maybe when he hits his forties, but certainly not now. Leave him before he ends it completely.

7. The No Ambition
If they have no ambition or focus in life, they are just gonna drag you down. A stable job shows what they could be like in the future. So, if they are jobless and living off their parents or their friends, it is time to give them up.

8. The Stoner
If 80% of his money is going on grass now, it won’t be changing for a while. Get out there and date around. If you still love him when he kicks the habit you can get back with him. But, leave him for now.
