avril lavigne

It's time to welcome back the thick black eyeliner of the 2000s and rock out to Skateboi and Complicated.

Why are we getting you so nostalgic I hear you cry?

Well, Avril Lavigne has just announced the release of a new album and it's given us an excuse to binge on those classic oldies.

Taking to her website, the queen of punk stated that its a "new era" for her music.

She was pumped to reveal that her first single is called “Head Above Water”, and it will be here on September 19. – IT'S SO SOON!

Avril fans have been waiting for five years for new music, as the singer in her statement detailed her battle with Lyme disease.

Our gal has used her struggle with her health to inspire this new music and WE CAN'T WAIT.

"I was able to turn that fight into music I’m really proud of. I wrote songs in my bed and on the couch and recorded there mostly as well. Words and lyrics that were so true to my experience came pouring out of me effortlessly," she wrote.

The 33-year-old went on to thank everyone who has supported her through her illness.

"I am very proud and thankful to everyone who waited so patiently and lovingly with me to support this process for me."

"I now have a very strong, triumphant, powerful and true record to me and my experiences over the last few years," she added.

By the sounds of it, this album will be an absolute banger and we are living for the new single.

In the run up to its release you can guarantee our playlists will be throwbacks to all her classic hits from the naughties.

Now we are off to try and learn how to skateboard – although we don't think we'll be quite as cool as Avril was.

Dig out the neck ties and the chequered wrist bands, because Avril Lavigne is back my friends!

The Girlfriend singer made her first red carpet appearance in two years on Friday when she showed off her gorgeous blonde waves at the 25th Annual Race to Erase MS Gala at The Beverly Hilton in California.

Stopping to chat with E! News, the 33-year-old opened up about her battle with Lyme disease and confirmed that her new music will be based around the hardship she experienced while battling the illness.

"I've been writing songs that are really just powerful and true and honest and sincere and I think people will really be able to relate to it," she explained.

"I've gone through a lot of personal stuff in the past two years and so I've really drawn from that."

Stepping away from the pop-punk genre, Avril revealed that her new record will be "very piano-driven", saying how she wanted to focus more on vocals and lyrics.

“It's more of a vocal record and just like, hearing the lyrics and really hearing the emotion in the vocal. It's very piano-driven, too."

While no official release date has been set, the new album is expected to drop sometime this year, with Avril, who is also producing the record, saying she plans to put the finishing touches on it over the few weeks.

We can't wait to hear the new material!

In the words of Avril Lavigne, why do you have to go and make things so complicated?

That's what fans are thinking at the moment as rumours arise that Avril is getting back with her ex-husband Chad Kroeger.

The 31-year-old shared a picture of the pair looking cosy in the recording studio, and many fans flocked to tell her they wish she was back together with her former partner.

One Instagram user said, "Please stay together," while another wrote, "You're my last hope on love." Another one simply said, "CHAVRIL."

Avril has been bust lately recording her sixth studio album, which will be the first bit of music she's produced in three years.

Now, the picture isn't proof of a romantic reconciliation and Avril is known to stay close to her exes – like she did with Sum 41's Deryck Whibley whom she divorced in 2009 – but fans of the couple are hoping this is the start of something new.

She's back in the spotlight, but Avril Lavigne is still dealing with a whole host of health issues behind the scenes.

Having been diagnosed with Lyme Disease over a year ago, the singer still has to have regular health screenings at the doctor's… and a LOT of blood tests too, it would seem.

In a very personal insight into her ongoing illness yesterday, Avril shared a picture of a number of blood vials next to her bandaged arm, captioning it, "On my way to good health #TakingCareOfMyself #FuckLymeDisease."

In another post, showing her sitting on a hospital bed, the singer wrote, "This journey continues ….. Just reach up, don't give up until you've touch the sky ….. We were all meant to fly."

Avril's "journey" isn't just health-related, though.

Last month the Girlfriend hitmaker confirmed she had split from her husband of two years, Chad Kroeger, with many reports suggesting the pair had parted ways long before the official announcement.

The news came just days after Chad was reportedly spotted in a Miami nightclub dancing flirtatiously with another woman.

In fact, rumours of a split began as far back as last September, when it was widely reported that things were rocky for the pair.

"It’s over,” a source claimed to Us Weekly at the time. “He has been going around L.A. telling people that they are divorcing.”

However in her official statement last month, Avril said the pair remained the "best of friends."

Singer Avril Lavigne last night confirmed that she and Nickelback star Chad Kroger were separating after two years of marriage, but many reports say they had secretly split some time ago.

Taking to Instagram to share a bittersweet picture of the pair in happier times, Avril said the split was amicable and that the pair would remain on good terms.

"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other," she wrote. "To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."

The news comes just days after Chad was reportedly spotted in a Miami nightclub dancing flirtatiously with another woman.

"He was saying that there aren’t that many places for him to go in Miami, he was happy to be there and be chill. He and the girl had a great time, they were dancing," an insider told Us Weekly of the encounter at E11EVEN club.

Rumours of a split began as far back as last September, when the same magazine reported that things were rocky for the pair, who married in 2013. "It’s over,” a source claimed at the time. “He has been going around L.A. telling people that they are divorcing.”

It hasn't been the best few weeks for Chad, with Nickelback confirming last week that they were cancelling all remaining 2015 tour dates while the singer recovered from vocal chord surgery to remove a cyst on his voice box.

We hope the pair find happiness again soon.

After a tough year, Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley had cause for celebration over the weekend.

The rocker wed his girlfriend Ariana Cooper at a romantic outdoor ceremony in the Hotel Bel Air in Beverly Hills on Sunday, walking down the aisle to Happy Together by The Turtles.

Friends described the ceremony, which was attended by just 100 guests, as "chilled and intimate."

Deryck, whose first wife was singer Avril Lavigne, ended up in hospital last year with kidney and liver failure following years of alcohol abuse.

Doctors placed him in a medically induced coma in April 2014 after he collapsed in his living room and left family fearing for his life. Luckily Deryck survived the incident and is now leading a teetotal life, with the knowledge that just one drink could end up killing him.

"I was drinking hard every day. Until one night. I was sitting at home, poured myself another drink around midnight and was about to watch a movie when all of a sudden I didn't feel so good," the musician wrote in a post on his website at the time.

"The reason I got so sick is from all the hard boozing I've been doing over the years. It finally caught up to me."

Rather than traditional champagne, the newlyweds toasted to their new life together with non-alcoholic cider. And in another sweet twist on the traditional, bride Ariana wore white Converse under her stunning strapless corseted gown with silver embellishments.

Although Avril and Deryck remain on relatively good terms, the Complicated singer was not in attendance for her ex's big day, having accepted an altogether more exciting invitation from Taylor Swift in San Diego the night before:

Yup, we'd choose that over a wedding too.

'Round SHEmazing Towers, we can't help but notice that mega successful singer-songwriter Taylor Swift is fond of a high-profile celebrity spat

Yes, whether it's Katy Perry (obvs), Nicki Minaj, or Tina Fey AND Amy Poehler (unforgivable!), Tay-Tay certainly isn't afraid of jumping in for a scrap when she feels slighted (which seemingly is quite often).

The 25-year-old has even managed to get her boyfriend, Calvin Harris, in on the act: a week ago he didn't like a comparison made online between his Shake It Off love and Miley Cyrus.

When the message was retweeted by none other than Zayn Malik, formerly of One Direction, Mr Harris let his feelings be known in rather spectacular fashion.

And now it's a case of another week, another celebrity shade throwing bonanza. This time, Taylor has been pitted against Canadian songstress, Avril Lavigne.

Here's the back-story (pay attention): Swifty liked a post on Tumblr which suggested she was nicer to her fans at meet and greets than many other singers – the 'other' examples used being Kanye West, Britney Spears, Katy Perry (eek)… and Avril herself.

When this came to Ms Lavigne's attention, she quickly amassed a montage of her own.

Depicted was the musician engaging warmly with the many followers she has met over a career which spans close-to a decade-and-a-half. It included the caption: "So let's keep it all about the love and stay positive."

And another tweet stated: "Comparison is judging and judging a person does not define who they are it defines who you are. We all Love our fans," – a message her 19.3million followers responded positively to.

Cue Mr Harris jumping in. "She didn't judge you she doesn't judge anyone!

"She was only having fun with her fans, not trying to compare you," the 31-year-old Scottish DJ said addressing the Sk8r Boi singer, 30, directly on Twitter.

And needless-to-say, it didn't take long for respective fans to express their outrage at the opposing side's actions. Indeed, social media has been positively alight since the incident.

Today, a source also told HollywoodLife.com that Calvin reckons Taylor is involved in so many feuds simply because "everyone" is jealous of her.

"Calvin thinks it’s plan and simple, everyone is jealous of his girl," the insider explains.

"Taylor is constantly being picked on for every little thing she does and Calvin’s advice is to stay positive and not take it personally."

Well, in that case we can't wait for next week's instalment of Tay-Tay's topsy-turvy world. Surely we're due a Britney-Swiftney spat soon?

It's been a year since Avril Lavigne's struggle with Lyme Disease forced her to bow out of the spotlight, but the singer returned to the stage last night for a very special performance at the Los Angeles Special Olympics World Games opening ceremony.

Performing her song Fly, an inspiring anthem she wrote especially for the Games, Avril looked healthy and happy as she sang at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Taking to Instagram after her performance, Avril seemed overwhelmed with how the night had gone.

"This was a very beautiful night for me… It has been a difficult year fighting through Lyme Disease for me and I am so happy to have made it on stage tonight for the first performance in a year," she wrote.

"Thank you for having me and please enjoy my song Fly. I wrote this song to encourage people who are facing challenges, to encourage strength and to empower."

Lyme Disease, an infectious illness caused by a tick bite, is often mistaken for other sicknesses, as happened in Avril's case. Speaking on Good Morning America last month, Avril revealed that for weeks doctors tried to convince her there was nothing wrong.

"They would pull up their computer and be like, 'Chronic fatigue syndrome.' Or, 'Why don’t you try to get out of bed, Avril, and just go play the piano?' It’s like, 'Are you depressed?' This went on and on for a month," she explained.

With a suspicion that her symptoms matched up with Lyme Disease, the Complicated singer finally got a diagnosis, and almost a year on she is getting stronger by the day, but it has been a difficult journey. "I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move. I thought I was dying … There were definitely times I couldn’t shower for a full week because I could barely stand," she said of her illness earlier this year.

We delighted to see her back in good health again.

It was nearly two years ago that Avril Lavigne was first diagnosed with Lyme disease.

On Monday, the 30-year-old singer opened up and spoke about her debilitating disease for the first time on camera.

Speaking to Jesse Palmer on Good Morning America, the Complicated singer broke down in tears when she discussed how doctors consistently told her that there was nothing wrong with her and that she was crazy.

“They would pull up their computer and be like, “Chronic fatigue syndrome.” Or, “Why don’t you try to get out of bed, Avril, and just go play the piano?” It’s like, “Are you depressed?” This went on and on for a month.”

Despite doctors misdiagnosing her, Avril suspected that she was suffering from Lyme disease two months into her symptoms and went to see a specialist.

The Canadian songstress said that it was a combination of the right doctor, her family and her fans that got her through her ordeal.

“I sat there in my bed and I watched the [fan created] videos and did exactly what I’m doing right now. I cried through the whole thing.”

Avril Lavigne is not the only celeb to suffer from the arthritic-like disease. The illness, which is caused by a bacterial infection contracted from a tick bite, also effects actress turned fashion designer, Ashley Olsen.

The 29-year-old has reportedly battled with the disease for years, and it has been speculated that her illness is the real reason that she has bowed out of the spotlight in recent years.

We are so glad that Avril Lavigne is back after being bedridden for five months while battling Lyme disease

During an interview with Good Morning America, Avril said: ""I went from doctor to doctor for about eight months until I found somebody that had the knowledge of Lyme disease and the experience of treating it."

She went on to add:  "I actually knew I had it the whole time, probably since the summer, and was just up against a lot of doctors telling me, 'You're crazy.' Some of them were like, 'It doesn't exist.'"

Doctors believed she was dehydrated and exhausted but Avril knew there was a much bigger underlying problem.

After suffering badly from the illness, 30-year-old Avril hopes to raise awareness about the disease which is caused by tick bites.

"I believe that I will come out of this healthier and stronger than I was before," the singer revealed. "I've gained a lot of perspective on my life. I'm choosing to look at the positives."

Lavigne, who is married to Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, released her new single Fly last week which she wrote before she became ill.

Fly is in partnership with the 2015 Special Olympics and all proceeds will go towards the organisation.

Avril spoke about the song: "It's just about inner strength and courage."

She admitted that: "This song took on a whole new meaning for me while I was sick, which was pretty magical."

We are so happy that Avril has bounced back from the disease and is on the road to recovery.

Fans of Avril Lavigne are sending her good wishes via Twitter after the star reportedly revealed she was suffering from “health issues” that have prevented her from working.

The Girlfriend singer finished up a tour of Asia and North and South America in mid-August but seems to have been taking some downtime since then.

Fan site Avril Music Charts tweeted a screenshot of an exchange on Facebook which apparently took place with the star.

When asked if she had plans to record any new music, having not released an album for two years, Avril responded by saying, “I feel bad because I haven’t been able to say anything to the fans to let them no [sic] why I've been absent. I'm torn as I'm quite private… I'm not feeling well. I'm having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers."

Although no official statement has been made, Avril did say “thank you” to the fan site via Twitter when they posted a message asking fans to send good wishes to the singer.

ET Canada reports that the singer has not been spotted in public since her 30th birthday party in September.

Avril celebrated the big 3-0 with a bash at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.

We hope she is doing okay and is on the mend!

Speculation that Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne are headed for divorce has been rife in recent months.

While both have been pictured minus their wedding rings however, Nickelback frontman Chad has finally set the story straight.

Appearing on Entertainment Tonight Canada, the singer rubbished claims that his marriage is in trouble.

“You know, I get to hear all the rumour mill stuff. I find it very amusing,” said the 39-year-old.

It seems that even the couple’s family have been affected by the constant speculation, with Chad admitting that his father grew concerned for the state of his marriage to the Complicated singer.

“You know my dad calls me up and he’s just like, ‘I haven’t slept in two days, what’s going on?’” said Chad, adding, “I’m like, ‘Dad, you’re not buying all this crap, are you?’”

Kroeger started dating Lavigne back in 2012, after working with her on her fifth album. The couple got engaged after one month of dating, going on to tie the knot in a French castle in July 2013.
