American Horror Story

The devil works hard, but Ryan Murphy works harder. The creator of the show is gearing up to launch another season of our favourite macabre show, and we can't contain our delight.

The excitement is brewing for American Horror Story season 9, following the brilliant crossover season which saw Murder House characters meet Coven characters.

Series nine of AHS 1984 will premiere in the UK on September 19, 2019 on Fox. What else do you need to know? Well, Ryan is a busy man and is developing another show with Netflix and US network FX.

Season 10 has been announced for September 2020, so there's that to look forward to. The title of series nine is 1984, as released via the show's Instagram.

The slo-mo trailer shows a woman being chased through the woods by a blade-wielding aggressor, set to Billie Eilish's creepy song Six Feet Under. We're reaching for our night lights already.

Variety reported that AHS veteran and legendary actress Sarah Paulson won't be returning for the ninth run of the show, which broke our hearts.

Deadline now claims that Paulson will appear in a guest role, similarly to her role as medium Billie Dean Howard in the Murder House season. Thank the Lord for that/

The actress scored a lead role in Ryan Murphy's Netflix series Ratched, so we're assuming she's far too busy for another headline slot. Fellow original star Evan Peters is sitting season nine out.

However, the actor subtlely implied that he will return for season 10 when he was interviewed by Digital Spy .

The main cast list for the season has been confirmed via teaser footage on Instagram, and the 1980s vibes are oh so real.

Emma Roberts is back with a bang, having appeared in Coven, Freak Show, Cult, Apocalypse and Ryan Murphy's other series Scream Queens.

Winter Olympian Gus Kenworthy is making his acting debut as Emma Roberts' boyfriend, and Matthew Morrison (of Glee fame) has a big role in the new season.

Cody Fern is back for a new role, after his stint in Murphy's Versace season of American Crime Story. The Anti-Christ from the Apocalypse is sure to bring his talent.

Leslie Grossman will also appear in season nine, having shown up  in the Murphy series Popular. How prolific is Ryan Murphy, does he ever take days off?

Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd, star of Booksmart, will also return after her roles in Cult and Apocolypse

John Carroll Lunch, who played Twisty the Clown in Freak Show and Cult and serial killer John Wayne Gacey in Hotel, has a haunting new role in S9.

Zach Villa is also appearing in the ninth series, and DeRon Horton (Dear White People) has also joined the AHS cast for the first time.

Star of Murphy's series Pose Angelica Ross will bring the 1980s slasher vibes, but Cult and Apocalypse star Billy Eichner (The Lion King) also won't be returning.

The only actors who have been in every season of  American Horror Story are Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, but Lily Rabe and Frances Conroy have only missed one season.

The icon that is Jessica Lange could also make a guest appearance, and the latest season added Hollywood legend Joan Collins to the cast. What long-term stars could show up next?

1984 is set in a summer camp, with the Coven crew appearing in a future season of the show but not series 9. Bring on September 19, we can't wait much longer.

We're obsessed and we don't care.

American Horror Story is outrageous, gruesome, jump-out-of-your-skin, nightmarishly terrifying – and we wouldn't have it any other way.

And the new season, American Horror Story: 1984 is on its way to scare the sh*t out of us again.

Mark your diaries – it will be on screens on September 18.

This time, the show will be set in the 1980s (duh) and it takes inspiration from slasher flicks for that decade.

I mean, what more could we want?

Horror lovers have been spoiled as of late – with Stephen King makes left right and center, the master that is Jordan Peele, Stranger Things' and ANOTHER Halloween movie set for 2020.

Fans of 80s horror will love this season – think Friday the 13th vibes.

It's set in – where else – a summer camp.

And from the creepy trailer, we see a young girl being chased through a forest by a hooded, knide-wielding man.

She reached a house but the attacker puts the knife through the wood and she lets out a piercing scream.

The only sh*t thing about this season is that Evan Peters, the King of American Horror Story, will not be featuring in it.

However, Emma Roberts will be back and Gus Kenworthy is set to lay her boyfriend.

This season won't be the last – we have another two to look forward to.

In the meantime, we might just re-watch old seasons to get us in the mood…

Bird Box has become one of the biggest movies of the last few years, with 80 MILLION people watching it on Netflix in the first month of its release.

It's safe to say pretty much the entire world has seen it, except for one lady, who is actually in the movie itself.

The iconic Sarah Paulson pairs up with her BFF Sandra Bullock for the flick following their Ocean's 8 collab, and Paulson plays Bullock's sister in the infamous apocalyptic horror.

During a recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Paulson explained that she actually never watches her own work, and hasn't done so since American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

Colbert reminded her that she's potentially missed out on some incredible movies and TV shows, such as The Post, which was Oscar-nominated, but she maintains that she's never actually seen Bird Box.

“You didn’t see you in The Post?!” Colbert asked. “It’s such a brilliant, beautiful scene, you were so good.” Paulson then made Colbert act out the scene so she could see the impact.

Imagine being in a movie which sees the entire population die if they open their eyes, and she won't even take off the blindfold to watch the performance and check who survived in the end?

“It’s so exciting that the movie is resonating with people, and I hope that people find a way to continue to enjoy watching the movie," she said, about the #BirdBoxChallenge.

“But I really hope people would not try to re-enact the most dangerous parts of it. It is a movie, and you shouldn’t try it at home. We don’t want anything tragic to happen.” Sensible words from Sarah.

It's a shame she won't get to see Sandra fight her way through the film blindfolded, we wonder how she feels about all the memes which have been inspired by the flick

Ryan praised his partner for remaining a symbol of strength for him and their son, reassuring and supporting the family each step of the way.

“My better half, David Miller, was a rock through this — strong and patient and loving (I was always a trembling wreck).

“Ford was strong as well, and today he is thriving. He just celebrated his fourth birthday, a milestone we are all so thrilled about. Ford is doing so well because of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.”

“We are so honored and lucky to contribute, and encourage everybody who can to do the same. We love you, Ford”.

Both Ryan and David are overjoyed that their son is able to celebrate this birthday milestone and continue to cherish each and every moment they get with young Ford.

Hopefully, the money they donate can help families going through a similar experience and have the potential to save another child’s life.

On September 12th, American Horror Story will be taking to our screens for the 8th season.

Little is known about the upcoming series, other than the fact that it will be titled Apocalypse and that it will be somewhat of a crossover between Coven and Murder House with a number of actors playing multiple roles in the one season – a process that worked incredibly well in the most recent season, Cult.

In honour of the upcoming season, and as an avid and slightly strangely enthused viewer of the show, I've ranked the seasons from best to worst. Any guesses where Apocalypse will end up in this line up?

1. Asylum

Image result for american horror story asylum

Definitely the most frightening, disturbing and thought-provoking season of the series.

The fate and demise of Shelley, played by Chloë Sevigny is the most horrifying of any character in the season, and the addled experimentation and nod to the most recessive underbelly if Nazi medicine in the character of Dr. Arden adds an especially twisted theme to the show. Sister Mary Eunice's possession, while undoubtedly scary, is a fun element to the show – particularly during her sexy rendition of You Don't Own Me. There is quite a bit going on in this series, with the side plot of alien abduction, visitation and micro bot nano technology, and the back stories of the various asylum patient, particularly Pepper.

This is all before we get on to the main storyline, following Lana Winters, a journalist who is condemned to a stint in the very asylum she is seeking to expose. The overlying religious elements make this series particularly harrowing, along with the serial killer plot with Bloody Face. Ultimately, it portrays the mistreatment of vulnerable people in a time not too far from the one we live in.

2. Coven

Image result for american horror story coven

An iconic series, and the one that drew many AHS fans to the show, Coven depicts a New Orleans witches haven, where young witches come to harness their powers.

The battle to become The Supreme, the ruler of the Coven is the main thread here, but the sub-plot of historic racism and dark voodoo magic is the most sickening of the series. And don't get me started on Spalding, the perverted necrophile butler's storyline. The main character here is Zoe, who uses her powers to bring a frat boy Kyle, back from the dead after she murders his rapist frat brothers. A crankly old murderous ghost is resurrected, and his fave weapon is an axe.  A fight against evil ensues, including working against Papa Legba and the Delphi Trust – an illuminati-like organisation out to end The Academy and its' witches. Then it's on to the Trial of the Seven Wonders to crown the next Supreme ruler of the witches.

3. Murder House

Image result for american horror story murder house

The series that started it all, the clue is in the name with this one. Ben and Vivien Harmon move into a very haunted house with their daughter Violet. Chaos ensues.

Moira O'Hara, played by Frances Conroy and Alexandra Breckenridge, is one of the most intriguing characters, a ghostly housekeeper who appears young and lustful to men, mainly Ben Harmon, but old and innocent to women. Ben, a psychologist, starts to see patients in his home office, and through them we get a history lesson on some of LAs most notorious murderous crimes. Vivien becomes impregnated with the antichrists child, while Violet strikes up a romance with Tate, the ghost of a school shooter. The scenes of Tate's crimes are come of the most difficult to watch, as are those in which we see Violet self harming, adding a disturbing element more rooted in the real world than one of fantasy horror. We also get to see the demise of the houses previous tenants, and the crimes they committed, and it's the houses history that leads to the events of the current day.

4. Roanoke

Image result for american horror story roanoke

After a random attack, a city couple move into a mansion built in the 18th century, and built in the middle of nowhere. The building's close proximity to the site of the Lost Colony of Roanoke on haunted earth makes it the scene of horror during the Blood Moon every year.

This series is cinematically engrossing due to it's odd presentation. Shot as a paranormal documentary series titled My Roanoke Nightmare in the first half of the season, the couple's experiences are reenacted by actors. For the second half, the documentary's cast and the original people to doc was about are brought back for the Blood Moon where (surprise surprise) further terror and slaughter await. It's definitely the most gory of all the seasons, and the sub-plot surrounding the 'hillbilly' family who live close to the manor is a vile depiction of poverty and sociopathy.

5. Hotel

Image result for ahs hotel synopsis

Hotel was definitely one of the most curated and art directed seasons of them all – and with it came Lady Gaga stepping in to a lead role. Based on haunted downtown LA hotels likt the Cecil hotel, the art deco grandeur of the set was a decided treat. The show's vampire theme definitely didn't thrill me as much as the historical scenes, where we looked back into the past at the crimes of some of America's most notorious serial killers. As a true crime fanatic, the dramatisation of these terrible crimes was both horrifying and highly interesting.

The interwoven plots of the past and present of the Hotel Cortez keeps you on your toes, and the fantasy aspect of the succubus theme is wild. Bonus points for the styling of Lady Gaga's character in this one.

6. Freakshow

Image result for ahs freakshow

Freakshow was one of the best series concepts AHS has seen, but there was almost too much going on in this season to truly appreciate one plot line from the next. Also, the villain in this season kept changing, which was a highlight on the one had  as it meant that you were never bored, but it also removed the air of intrigue slightly, as one villain was foiled another sprung up in its place. The Morbidity Museum was utterly terrifying, and the entire show spoke to the distasteful human interest in things that are 'freaky.'

The subplots of suppressed sexuality and old-timey prejudice against anyone or anything that was different were the most enthralling, and while Dandy made for an incredible villain, his mother Gloria was easily one of the most twisted and pathetic characters (in a good way) the series has ever portrayed.

7. Cult

Image result for ahs cult

The most recent season of AHS comes in last, not because it was bad, by all means it was another amazing season, but because I, and a lot of AHS fans and forums, feel that it just wasn't executed as well as it could have been. The season follows the aftermath of the 2016 Presidential election, and the reactions of the residents of a small town in Michigan.

It delves into the rise of Kai, a seemingly alt-right leader who attempts to provoke rage in all things he does,. His cult of killer clowns terrorises the city, and the entire season highlights the connection between power and corruption. Despite the weird, borderline incest plotline, Billie Lourde shines in this season, and the filler episode with Len Dunham as Valerie Solanas is actually pretty cool, but I so wanted MORE from that thread, especially when mention of the Zodiac Killer arose.

American Horror Story has touched on many themes and time periods over its seven seasons.

From a 1960's mental institution to a retro hotel in downtown Los Angeles, each self-contained miniseries tells a tale of unusual happenings, some of which have been inspired by true events.

However, it looks like the hit show is set for an entirely new direction, with creator Ryan Murphy revealing that the new season will be set in a science-fiction style future.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the executive producer revealed the news during the Television Critics Association's press tour in Pasadena last Friday.

Without giving too much away, Ryan explained: “All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future—still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done.”

He continued to say how the idea was met with huge excitement from FX bosses, adding how he thinks fans are really going to enjoy the new theme.

“I pitched it to [FX chief] John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he’s asked me not to say what it is,” Ryan said.

“I told him and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it, it’s different from what we’ve done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I’ve done on that show.”

Though no date has yet been set, American Horror Story season 8 will likely go to air this coming September, with Sarah Paulson confirmed to return for a new leading role.

American Horror Story fans, rejoice, because the hit TV series is making its way back to our screens ASAP.

Rumours have been swirling for months that the new series will explore the theme of the American election, but in typical AHS style, it has been revealed that this theme will have a bit of a twist.

The brand spanking new teaser trailer for the now iconic show has just been released, and it reveals that the story line is focused on and portrayed through the eyes of a cult.

A post shared by American Horror Story (@ahsfx) on

The trailer shows a number of terrifying clown-like clones chanting and moving in unison as they entice blue-haired outcasts to join their cult.

The video is accentuated with a sprinkling of occult symbols and ominous weapon wielding, typical AHS style.

Fans weren't too impressed with the inclusion of clowns in the new season, with fears that this season would be too similar to Freak Show being voiced in the comments section.

However, we're sure that AHS will have plenty of twists and turns in store for season seven viewers.

The 24-year-old actress and former fiancée Evan Peters have called off their engagement according to multiple reports.

The couple got engaged in 2013 but Emma has been seen out without her engagement ring for a number of weeks.

An insider close to the Hollywood pair explained the situation in an interview with Just Jared. “Their three years together just ran its course,” the source revealed.

“They have so many great memories together but couldn’t make it work in the end. The breakup was amicable – there was no drama whatsoever. Emma and Evan are even still friends!”

The Scream 4 star and Mr Peters began dating in 2012 when they starred alongside each other in the indie film, Adult World. They co-starred together again in the cast of American Horror Story: Coven and American Horror Story: Freak Show.

28-year-old Evan explained in a 2014 Vulture interview how he was quite shy and was scared to approach Ms Roberts at the beginning. “I had a crush on her, too, and I didn’t really know how to approach her or talk to her or any of that stuff,” the X-Men star revealed.

“At the time I was a more introverted actor, trying to kind of stay into it and stay focused and not talk too much.”

Well, it’s definitely safe to say he got over his fears as he went on to date the Hollywood beauty for three years.

The couple have certainly seen their fair share of drama. In 2013 the niece of Julia Roberts was arrested for domestic violence after the police were called over reports that the couple were fighting. Emma was arrested for attacking her beau who was reportedly left with a bloody nose and bite marks.

A rep for Ms Roberts said at the time that “it was an unfortunate incident and misunderstanding.”

The couple worked past the fight but two years later it has apparently come to an end… thankfully a calm and amicable one!
