‘I forgot my T Card’: 10 things you’ll understand if you went to IT Tralee
With many thrifty Leaving Cert students applying for the CAO this week to avail of the discounted fee, we’ve been having major throwback talks in SHEmazing HQ about our college experiences.
And while the basic structure might have been the same, there is no doubt that wherever you went to college, it was a truly unique experience.
Especially if you've graced the halls of Kerry’s IT Tralee.
When they say Kerry is a whole other world, they really mean it.
Here’s nine things you’ll know all too well if you studied at IT Tralee.
1. North side, south side
From your very first day, you were already on a side.
While you may have been in spitting distance from your counterparts on South Campus, you were already being groomed to hold a grudge.
2. Rent was dirt cheap
There was nothing nicer than boasting to your friends in UCD that €300 per month got you a double bed, ensuite and security gate on the complex. #HumbleBrag
3. Forgot your T Card? Might as well head home
Your T Card became an extension of your arm, carrying it with you always just to hear those two beeps of recognition that you made it to your 9am lecture on Friday morning.
4. So wait, you go to TIT?
You felt an instant bond with anyone in IT Tallaght because you know they had to listen to that torturous joke for three or four years too.
5. The beach is so close but I never actually go there
From the moment you read that prospectus you imagined your life like the kids on The OC, heading to the beach after college to catch some waves or stroll along the sand.
Then you remember the brute force of the Atlantic Ocean and that you would probably get pneumonia from just stepping out of the car… and it’s far!
6. The forgotten courses
If you weren’t a health and leisure or a nursing student your answer to ‘what course are you doing?’ would always receive a slightly bemused look.
7. To The Cube
Using the excuse ‘I study better with noise’, The Cube was home to us students who wanted to feel like we were working but really just wanted talk about how little we had actually done with our classmates.
8. Getting a seat in R Block meant you’d probably skip your next lecture
With only a few couches up for grabs, if you were one of the lucky few to get a seat then you wouldn’t be moving for no man nor lecture.
9. Pre-drinking and Kings Court: the perfect union
There was only one place to be from the hours of eight to 11 on a Tuesday or Thursday night.
10. Horans
Enough said!
