How did this 13-year-old become an instagram fashion star?

Mike the Ruler has over 5,000 followers on his fashion instagram account. But, what makes this even more phenomenal is that, he’s only 13-years-old.

Mike from New York is considered an icon in the online fashion world, after he set up his instagram account a year ago.

Mike’s success has only grown since then, with many designers considering him a recognisable voice in the fashion community.

But Mike says he prefers small designers instead of chasing big brands.

“I don’t really like big brands. I like little designers who are creating something new.”

Mike said he became inspired to set up a fashion instagram account, after he saw an Alexander McQueen show two years ago.

“These clothes were very overwhelming. They were dark. Some were disturbing and beautiful at the same time. And it felt like they were demanding something. It put this thought into my head that clothes were important and they have their own personalities and they tell stories when you wear them.”

Mike says his instagram account gives him creative freedom, when it comes to his own personal style.

“I feel like I can be the person who I am.”
