The world of fashion was in mourning last night after news emerged that designer Oscar de la Renta had died.

The 82-year-old passed away due to complications from cancer, a disease he had been fighting for the last eight years. His wife Annette confirmed the news last night.

Oscar's stunning designs were a favourite with celebrities of all ages, from Sarah Jessica Parker, Lea Michele, Beyoncé and Penélope Cruz to various First Ladies including Michelle Obama, Jackie O and Hilary Clinton.

Most recently, he designed Amal Alamuddin's exquisite bridal gown for her wedding to George Clooney.

Stars took to social media last night to express their sadness at the passing away of a legend. Taylor Swift shared this beautiful shot of her wearing one of Oscars's gowns, with the message, "My all-time favorite designer has passed away. Oscar, it was an honor to wear your creations and to know you. In loving memory."
