8-year-old boy in serious condition after being struck by car in Meath

An eight-year-old boy is in a serious condition after being rushed to hospital following a road accident in Co Meath this evening.

The boy was stuck by a car at Abbeylands South, Navan, at around 3:00pm this afternoon.

He has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where his injuries have been described as serious.

Gardaí have confirmed that no one else was injured in the incident and an investigation has been launched.

Officers from the Navan Garda station in Meath have closed off the surrounding area near the junction and are appealing for witnesses to contact them on (046) 9079930.

Road diversions are expected to remain in place until later this evening.
