5 Irish make-up artists you NEED to follow on Instagram

by

In make-up terms, Instagram is the new YouTube. As YouTube becomes increasingly saturated with tutorial after tutorial, artists are increasingly moving towards the use of edited pictures and short-form video clips in order to share their work and stand out on what is a far more aesthetic platform.

Recently a really popular YouTuber, Gossmakeupartist, criticised the likes of Anastasia Soare (creator of the Anastasia Beverly Hills line) for favouring a somewhat heavy makeup look and helping to push the trend for that technique on Instagram in particular. It turned into something of an ugly (though popcorn-worthy) Twitter spat, which really was a shame.

There’s room for everyone and every kind of technique online, and Instagram is a brilliant tool for creatives of all types to showcase their work – some MUAs have even been discovered via their accounts. On that note, I thought I’d take things a little closer to home, and explore some of Ireland’s best makeup artists on Instagram…

1. Siobhán McDonnell – @letzmakeup82
I'm sure that more than a few of you know Siobhán from her hugely popular YouTube channel, LetzMakeup. She's hugely likeable and her honest, no-fuss persona is something that really stands out to me. Her videos are always some of the first for me to click on, but she's also totally worth following on Instagram for a bit of inspiration and product porn!

2. Heather Davern @heatherdavernmakeup
Heather showcases a lot of looks on herself and her core aesthetic is all about fresh, clean skin, smokey eyes and daringly bold lips. She makes the somewhat daunting task of pulling off the two look absolutely effortless, and I'm always jotting down her choices and combinations of shades, as she simply never gets it wrong.

3. Ciara Allen – @ciaraallenmakeupartist
As well as being seriously talented at what she does (having worked with MAC, L'Oreal, Wella and more), Ciara's a lot of fun! Give her a follow for a peek at her professional work as well some personal musings, plenty of product chat and mini reviews – always with added craic!

4. Noella Geoghegan – @noellamakeup
Noella is a multi-skilled artist – aside from her makeup skills, she's a trained eyebrow professional, and had the privilege of working backstage at the London Olympics opening ceremony back in 2012. Her Instagram feed is full of the most beautiful creatures – mostly models that she's made up – and her impeccable technique speaks for itself.

5. Fabiana Coppola – @fabsyyy
MAC-trained Fabiana has just gone out on her own and I've no doubt that her venture will be a huge success. I love how she heavily favours a cat eye and her blending is just always on point! Fabiana uses a lot of indie makeup brands as well as the usual suspects, so definitely check her out if you're after something that little bit more unusual.

Well there's a look of disgust if ever I've seen one!
